Gaming PC Build

Hey guys, I'd really like your help with this build! This is my first time building a PC as I've been a console gamer for last number of years. I'd now like to join the wonderful world of PC Gaming. I've been reading a lot about what goes into a gaming PC and have a rough idea but I thought some insight from you guys would do this project some good!

    1. What is your budget? €500

    2. What will be the main purpose of the computer? Mainly gaming. Next gen games like BF 4 and future Call of Duty games, DayZ, Skyrim, Total War.. The Sims 3 ( :P ) along with other games similar to these. I definitely don't expect to play on Ultra settings but playable frame-rates is what I'm going for on the hard-to-run titles, if possible.

    3. Do you need a copy of Windows? no

    4. Can you use any parts from an old computer? Maybe Case + DVD Drive but that's only a maybe. I have a 250gb HD in an old laptop but im not sure it can be put in the new one(..?). The parts I'd like are case, processor, RAM, graphics card, & power supply. (might of forgot something

    5. Do you need a monitor? This may sound weird, but is it possible to use an old laptop solely as a monitor for my PC?

5a. If yes, what size do you need.

5b. If no, what resolution is your current monitor and do you plan to upgrade in the near future?

    6. Do you need any of these peripherals? no

    7. Are you willing to try overclocking? Yes

    8. How can you pay? Card

    9. When are you purchasing? Whenever

    10. If you need help building it, where are you based? No

Not really sure how future proof you can get for 500€, but I'd like to get as much out of the 500 as possible.

ETA: What I think I want in this build is 8gb of RAM, a 3.5+GHz 4-Core processor, a motherboard with a high bus speed(???) and a graphics card with 2GB of memory, but to be honest, I'm not sure if all that is possible on a budget build. I have no idea what determines one graphics card from another apart from memory but that's not the only aspect and other than that, i'm pretty familiar with RAM + processors.

April? The market will be completely different at that time. Come back about two weeks before you intend to order. - In case you are wondering, it is not worthwhile to order bit by bit.

That's how long I predicted it would take me to source all the parts I wanted while doing this solo, eg. it took me three weeks to get a good idea as to what kind of processor i'd want for the price i'd pay.

If someone offered a complete build I fancied, I'd be more than happy to jump on it, which is what I'd love and is why I came here!

Choosing parts can take hours to days to weeks. With help from here, someone can spec a build for you and you'll have it ordered and assembled within a week almost.

In any case, I am offering a system (without a monitor) which is exactly in your price range (420~ for the system, keyboard and Windows 7 included, legitimate copy) without a monitor. (Monitor will set you back 100-120 quid.

If you're interested let me know an I'll post the specs up here and the guys can tell you if it's a good deal or not.

It is possible to use a laptop screen, I've seen it done before but you need to have a converter which wouldn't be that common and also it runs on DC (although converts back to AC, iirc). Much easier to get a new screen.

This is about as low as I'd go without completely chopping down the system.

    Item|Price
AMD FX-6300 Prozessor, Boxed, Sockel AM3+|€98.98
    ASRock 970 Pro3 R2.0, AM3+, ATX|€61.72
    WD Caviar Blue 1TB 6Gb's|€54.81
    HIS HD 7770 iCooler GDDR5 1024MB DVI/HDMI/VGA|€89.13
    BenQ GW2255|€99.00
    Sharkoon VS3-Value Grün, ohne Netzteil|€24.41
    4GB-Kit G-Skill RipJaws PC3-12800U CL9|€36.63
    Corsair Builder Serie CX430 V3 Non-Modular 80+ Bronze, 430 Watt|€39.63
    Shipping|€18.99
    Total|€523.30

We can choose a different motherboard if you want it strictly under €500. €600 would get you a much better system, allowing room for the likes of 8GB RAM and a better graphics card.

I would say that the difference between 500 and €600 is massive in terms of what you can get in components. The extra 100 quid can get you a better motherboard, much better CPU or alternatively, a solid state drive. If none of those appeal to you, a hundred quid extra to blow on a high end graphics solution will be a night and day difference.

    Something to consider ;)

Thanks guys for your help. One thing I'd like to know is what sort of parts I could get for €500 if you were just buying a Case, Motherboard, Processor, Graphics card, RAM and power supply?

    Thanks everyone! :)

If you took out the monitor, hard drive and graphics card of the build above you could get a GTX 760 or 660 TI

If it's a hard drive made anytime recently, it'd be SATA which you could use easily with a new system. However laptop drives are slower than desktop and an old drive would be slower again.
