I dunno, part of me thinks it would have been a better story if he'd been run down by a stolen car......

Where is the amusement in this, OP? Would you laugh equally enough if it was someone related to you?

This is what happens when ya whip up a frenzy for people to buy something. Doesn't matter what it is, once people feel they need to have it, some moron will try to take it.

Is anybody really surprised, it's common knowledge that violent video games causes people to become more violent!

In fairness we don't know that he was mugged for this reason. He was mugged on his way home from Asda and in a residential street. Could just have been a random mugging.
He was robbed of all valuables including the game.

Aye, always the way. I'll never forget the time back in 1986 I took three .30-cal rounds from an M-60 while walking home with my brand-new copy of Elite's "Commando" arcade game port to the ZX Spectrum! :D

Ah yes its GTA day today.

I expect there will be a few more incidents and little stories today.

There must be plenty of kids out there throwing wobblers today cause they didn't get their hit. Many a broken saucer.

You would have to assume the guys robbing the game haven't played it yet (hence the robbing) - therefore the game can't really be blamed can it? :pac:

On the brighter side of life, has anyone played it yet?!

Wouldn't be the biggest gamer alive but this looks amazing.

It will be a few days yet before any GTA V gamers have the time to be posting on AH.

Lots of pringles, lots of redbull....

Previous job I was in. One of the lads rang in sick 3 days straight when Call of Duty came out and even then he'd be back in and kept rubbing his square eyes saying he got an hour or two sleep.

The day Half Life 3 is confirmed I'm going to start whacking people across the head with a crowbar, the more they ignore me and continue talking the more I'm going to whack them.

I didn't click on the link to read the story but I fail to see how such a story is funny. Ironic, yes. Funny, no.

First of all, there's a man probably in hospital, suffering from injuries from an unproked attack.

Secondly, it has the potential to bring bad pubilicy to what I think is a good game with some people having an opinion that such games encourages and leads to violence in real life and in turn governments might introduce a banning on the game and other such games.

Chances are, when it comes to a mugging, as opportunist as they can be, it's not without being watched for some period of time beforehand, even if it is only short. But my comment was also more along the lines of, it's not a direct cause or effect of GTA either. If GTAV is to be involved in any part as motivation of it, it's more so due to the hype of desire for it. It happens quite a bit with these new releases.

Scumbags do "scumbaggy" things all the time, not just on GTA V release night.

I was going to have some broccoli for dinner but when I bought it I was stabbed and had it taken off me by a cauliflower. My own fault really.

I assume the person woke up standing outside the hospital with no weapons and no idea how they got there . .

They would have robbed him anyway, he just happened to have GTA among other things he bought. Typical bullshit from the DM.

He was just getting robbed and happened to have GTAV in his bag since he was out at that time of night.

But don't let that stop the likes of DM from having a go at GTA.
The series has often faced criticism for its violent content since its original launch.

The fifth game in the series has been criticised for featuring scenes of torture including one where the player is instructed to pull out his victim's teeth with a pair of pliers.

Another scene in the 18 rated game sees a victim tied to a chair and flammable liquid poured over his head.

The victim's kneecap is then smashed with a monkey wrench and he is given electric shocks

    Sounds great :pac:

No reason to suspect the game was the reason the guy was mugged. His watch and phone was also stolen.

They'd twist anything for a good headline.

No, I am not buying that. There is no evidence that this fella was mugged for his game.
His watch and money was robbed too.
Linking the game with the mugging is tabloid sensationalism in my opinion.

You say it happen quite a bit with these new releases, I have never seen one report of this new crime wave.
