Why is the picture quality of news footage from the US always so terrible?
I was watching some clips of yet another shooting in the states on rte (I think) today and quality was pretty rubbish, as it usually is.
Obviously news channels in the states would have pretty high-spec cameras and equipment so I don't understand why the footage we get over here is crap quality.

Simply put - Ireland doesn't use the same TV system as the US (PAL as opposed to NTSC).

I'm aware of this but I don't understand how this makes everything so fuzzy!

Does it work he other way then? If FOX or NBC air footage from Sky or (God forbid) RTE, will it look fuzzy to Americans?

Pal and NTSC run at different resolutions and refresh rates. In the modern world of HD they should all be the same resolution and refresh rate though, I would have thought.

I would say they use a lot of post processing to apply the look they're looking for. I would say RTE don't do any post processing and you're getting the raw camera footage.
