I am looking for a new PVR for a friend who want to record both Freeview HD or Saorview without missing a recording.
    I have a Humax HDR-FOX T2
Is this still the best or any newer PVR since?

Any of the Panasonic PVR range work perfectly with the following exceptions.
    1) Won't display detailed program info on the EPG for Saorview
    2) Won't show teletext for Saorview

They also have a model with option to record to Blu Ray disk as well as HDD.

In all other respects they work perfectly and from my reading of reviews are the most reliable for recording on both systems. They also manage to get both FV and SV on one EPG with option to number stations as you want. Some other PVRs struggle with showing both SV and FV at the same time. Some struggle with recording from both systems at same time ( e.g. Sony)

I have the DMR HW220 for nearly a year with no problems. Never missed a recording. The new range for 2013 is basically the same with some extra features for tablets/smartphones.

Best price in Ireland is Richersounds in Belfast. Currys also sell them but expensive. Could also try www.panasonicstore.ie

Richersounds have a great offer here on the 2012 model that I have -

Humax does not show EPG from FV and SV at the same time, it is one or the other, pain in the ass but the recording seem to work well with me, but someone else reporting that recording had failed for them.
Series Recording also work well on both system.
I will look into the model you stated above and will let my neighbour know

    Thanks for your reply.

The Humaxes with 500g are £170 at the moment on Amazon for anyone interested.

Is it OK as a Saorview pvr?

Is it OK as a Saorview pvr?
No, it is not Saorview certification approved.

    1. Irish channels are in the 800
    2. no update from Saorview if any new feature come later
    3. no EBU teletext from TV3 and TG4
    4. maybe other issue that I am not aware of

It is a UK Freeview certification approved.

Thanks for that. But I'm in Saorview only country and am looking for any kind of pvr, but would prefer the Humax if it worked. No need for teletext or any of the bells & whistles. If it saves the use of hooking up a dvd recorder or vcr, then it will suffice for me. Its not for the main tv.

Is there any freeview HD box out there that allows you to re order channels so you have Rte one on 1,two on 2 etc?

I suppose its not the end of the world, with the saorview's in the 800's

The humax does seem to be the best,I have an old mpeg2 one and loved that.
I now need one for connection to a slingbox.
Is there any sign of series link for rte on these boxes lately,I know a few of you are using them for saorview only and there was on rte 1 plus one at some point, what's the story now?

You probably know already but, if you want Saorview approved in a proper PVR, there is only the Walker WP6500TTR.

Oh interesting, that's probably in threads here I don't keep up with but I knew someone would be along with something I'd missed.
As what I want is mainly for a (not really wanting hd)slingbox, this might do,I wonder does it do UK series links too,or are there any on saorview at all? I know my sagem sees none.

Must check thanks, but it and walker probably aren't sling compatible,so my best option might be the humax.

An Alien2 with Enigma2 will do streaming over your home network, will do Series Link (using the AutoTimer plugin), can mix Saorview and Satellite in the same EPG and and and .....

Ah yes,but it needs to be supported by sling to work for me,otherwise there would be no virtual remote available.

Btw,can channels be ordered anyway you want on the walker, does anyone know,ie can you manually move Uk freeview channels to say 7,8,9 onwards?
Having access to recordings would be the dogs dangly bits (assuming the sling does walker)
    Sd is fine.

Folks I am geting a fair few missed recordings and am struggling to work out exactly what I can do to avoid it

Have a series recording on ITV, but seem to be missing RTE recordings though recorded them previously manually.

I have tried leaving the channel on UK and recording RTE and visa versa and it records fine cant seem to work out exactly what the problem is and can I rectify it ie do recordings manually as opposed to the guide menu

Sorry have a Fox HDR Fox T2

That sounds like, the usual saorview & freeview channel hop,epg for either disappearing, means you can only use Sl on one or the other but not both at the same time.
I know, saorview and free view listings do stay on the epg together if you flick on a channel from the missing suite, having had one from the other on.
But you'd have to repeat this every time you switch on.
As that's probably due to some different protocols on both systems,it probably means no easy fix to losing or failing to record Sl'ed programmed on each.

Happened to me too with Saorview recordings using this box. Ended up using the "padding" feature. This adds extra recording time to the scheduled start and finish times in the EPG.

    "Menu>Settings>Preferences>Recording"

This should take you to the padding settings.

Yea, Peter, thanks, I do know, but the Walkers are too error prone imo, from reading threads here. The Humax range of boxes have a very good reputation, thats why I'm interested.

I think you've possibly mis-understood what I was saying. From a pc or tablet or phone, you can select any channel you want to watch over a Lan while someone could be still watching another programme while sitting right in front of it.

In addition, you can also watch previously recorded programmes or films.

So it does away with a Sling entirely.

Over a lan,but not away from the house which is what I use the sling for?

Sorry, Over Lan and Internet so :)

All you need to know is your public IP and open your router for inbound access. Ideally you need to use DynDNS. I have a phone app, Dreamdroid, which, not only can you stream to it, but you can also set the timer for programmes if you forgot something

Was confident enough that it wasn't a saorview/free view conflict though might be wrong, series record was utv and the individual was RTE

Tried this this week and seems to record fine now cheers

Might of been a blessing that the Sweden and austia games failed to record:)
