30-40 mins beforehand should be plenty, longer if you want to do a serious warm-up. If it's the same group that organised a similar event in balbriggan in march, expect a slightly relaxed/disorganised event. Timing will probably be by an electronic chip strapped to your shoe or possibly just manual recording as you cross the line - but this info should be available on the morning.

I haven't seen the route but it's potentially a nice rural route with a few hills, and there'll probably be a decent crowd with at least a few hundred entered.

Route map is here : http://www.balbriggansummerfest.com/10k_Map_sep13.pdf
A few hills on Inch Road , and then the big hill back to the industrial estate.

I could find any additional info about start time etc but may try posting on their FB page

Does anyone know if this is the same route that the Balbriggan Roadrunners' 10k will be on Paddy's Day this year?

    Actually I found this: http://connect.garmin.com/activity/261466317
which is last year's route. It'll probably be the same.

    Hi,

The Paddys Day and Summerfest routes are different

Paddys day route was one loop of the garmin activity you found
Summerfest started next to MacDonalds, down the bypass to the Arrow roundabout, then back up and one the back roads towards the cricket club, back down to Balbriggan and back up the bypass [ sorry don't have a garmin profile for it as I didn't do it ] -
The Paddys day event wasn't organized by the roadrunners so I can't say if this years route will be the same , but I think I know who got this going last year so will try to get more details.

If the Paddy's Day event is on again this year hopefully it will be measured correctly. The half-marathon was close to half a mile short, and I think the 10k had similar issues (and the garmin route above also suggests this). I like the route and there was plenty of interest last year, but the organisers need to look at this if they are having another go this year.

Both races are being held again on St Patricks Day this year which is a Monday. The routes will be the same and the courses will be AAI certified (measured).

I did the 10K last year but will probably do the half this year.

Nice one. How is the Half course? would you say it is bumpy or reasonably flat?

I Plan to do it as a PMP run for London. 4 weeks out 20 miles with 13.1 @ PMP fits my scedule perfectly...

The course in undulating (2 loops) a few short sharp hills on each loop with one long drag with equal downhills.

This was the 10K route. The 1/2 was 2 loops of this with an extra 1K at the start which was flat.

IMO it would provide you with a good workout prior to London.

Thanks for that. Any chance you could enable the Elevation corrections on that (bottom left).??

Thinking of entering this as can't seem to find many other 10kms around for match.

Need something to keep me out the pub haha.

Anybody know of other 10kms in Dublin around mid march?

The only other one I know of is the Fit Magazine, City series 10K in Phoenix Park on March 9th.

I'm a bit sick of running in the park (and will be there several times this year anyway) so might do this one instead.
