snap hook from tee

    Hi all,

Was previously a 9 handicapper when I was playing regularly. Now I play society golf mainly.
Still off 12 and up to recently was playing to fairly consistently.

I have developed a snap hook off the tee, no matter what club I use. Obviously worse with driver but happens most of the time even with a mid iron. Hit 3 wood to wedge consistently from fairway no problem.

Last round I played I hit 3 good drives which resulted in a birdie and 2 solid pars. Rest I was either reloading or knocking out sideways or at best hitting a second to get within reach of green.

Very frustrating, I know the skinhead is somehow closing at impact. At driving range I hit well so it must be part in my head I think as well.

Anyone experiencing same thing or am I alone with my woes?
    Appreciate any advice at all.

    Thanks
    Chris

Having the same problems, currently off 12.
earlier in the year i was making great progress... Then the last 6 weeks my driving has slowly disintegrated to my lowest ebb last Sunday duck hooking it about 20 to 30 yards from the first 4 tees... Resorted to using 3 or 4 irons from the tee for a few holes... tried driver, 3w, utility a few more times in the round with all very similar results ...duck hooks and low pulls
It became 90% mental in the end which drove to the physical syptoms of overswinging, not staying down on it and trying to kill it with obvious consequences all making me further frustrated and annoyed. Ended up shooting 100 on a par 70.

Went to the range hit 300 balls during the week, spoke to my pro, played 7 holes friday evening before playing a rnd yesterday. On the range and the 7 holes hit it great, on the course yesterday hit it average but no duck hooks or pulls. For me its about rebuilding confidence on the range and then bringing that to the course consistantly over time. Probably need to dig out some of my bob rotella books too. I know if i work hard enough on it, invest time on it in the off season i'll soon make it a strength of my game rather than a weakness.

Sorry for the long winded reply, my advice would be go to a pro for a check up on the physical side then try to build up confidence on the range before taking it to the course

Thanks for the reply. I am hitting it well on the range. You are right about the confidence piece. I know if I put myself in position off the tee I can score well.

Think I may be gripping too tight with right hand. Trying to relax the grip a bit. Lesson or two is probably the order of the day.

Playing mount julliet in couple weeks, love the course but not enjoying playing when I am hitting it so bad.

As a 28 handicap player im hardly one to be giving advice but i had the exact same issue .

It started about six weeks ago but it was from driver to wedge with me . Off the tee hooking everything and from the deck was struggling to get the Ball in the air and when i did they were going way left . Tried everything to get back to normal but just couldn , really taught of jacking the hole game in as it had me close to tears .

So went for a lesson last Wednesday week and it was best 25 euro iv ever spent . Straight away i was told my right hand grip had slipped way back . And got à few more helpful pointers off him .

Had 2 hours on range that friday and straight away the improvement was huge .

Do you have a skinhead? Not sure why this is causing your shots.......

    :)

You possibly have too much hand action in your swing and may be rolling the wrists through impact. If the ball starts left and ducks left then you are swing from out to in and then closing the face.

A lesson on alignment and grip might help.

    for me it was setup.
pro said I had hands too far forward and head and weight to far behind the ball.
try to keep my hands neutral note, which feels behind the ball a bit, but it's working fine.

I'm guessing here a little but if you got to 9 op you are probably handy enough, so this might work for you if a snap hook is your miss play for a high draw. You will never see a high snap hook and the focus on trajectory will/should/might take away from your miss. Try it, it works for me.
