Need ideas for cover letter

Hi i want to take on a second job and the local cinema is looking for staff. Its simply the Coolest job ever. I'm 37 btw so that could work against me as there is a lots of college kids working there, i want to work there myself i love movies and like the simple life.

I need a cover letter and i thought to beat the rest i would do a cover letter filled with references to movies. try to beet the rest so to speak. I understand the manager could be a fuddy duddy and bin it but i want to give it a try anyway. so i have started off with this so far:

    Dear manager

I am a die hard fan when it comes to movies. I love to trek to movies when ever im free. It would be Superbad not to get a chance to work in the movie world. While i would love to have a fun job I would take my job seriously and im not a Jackass. I know there re younger people applying for this position and this makes me feel somewhat up the creak Without a Paddle so i hope my mature age doesn't put you off because i may be Old School. I have always had a Bond with movies even so much i was in a few myself as an extra. Im sure my mature age will help to be a Role Model to others

So thats how far i have got. but id like to hear your versions.

have fun and cheers in advance
    :P:D;)

If I was the manager and saw that coming in I would put it through the shredder straightaway. They are looking for someone to work not sit up in the back row watching the film and eating popcorn.

That letter sounds like you want the job so you can sneak in and watch movies for free.

Do a take on the Taken speech.
I don't know who you are, but I know what you want. f you are looking for an employee, I can tell you I don't have money. But what I do have are a very particular set of skills; skills I have acquired over a very long career. Skills that make me a godsend for people like you. If you give me the job now, that'll be the end of it. I will not look for you, I will not pursue you. But if you don't, I will look for you, I will find you, and I will kill you.

Totally agree with Santa Cruz, if you're looking to highlight your maturity I'd suggest focusing on the spelling and grammar and forgetting the movie references. Think of reasons why you should be seen as a better candidate than the younger people applying for the job; try to see it from their point of view (i.e. why they should hire you, not just why you would like the job); highlight your maturity rather than your 'mature age'.

Bad idea, the employer is looking for someone to WORK in the cinema, not a movie buff looking to be paid to watch movies!

If you're successful in this application, I think you should give us all a couple of free tickets to movies of our choice.

If you can wait 100 days and 100 nights standing outside the doors of the theatre, then at the end of it, the job shall be yours.

Make sure to use popcorn scented paper for that authentic feel.

All cover letters are the same boring stuff for those jobs.

Id say do it if your not too upset about not getting the job, if you do the manager will think you are sound.

I would at least give you an interview for that.

If the manager was to read that cover letter I imagine he would think 17 year olds are more mature than the OP

Manager: Tonyheaney, step into my office.

    Tonyheaney: Why?

Manager: Because you are fcuking fired!

Managers dont want some smart ass messer looking for a bit of craic or free tickets to see movies. They want people who wont dick about and just get on with the job. So focus on the fact you're older and more mature looking for extra work to pay the bills rather than a few quid to drink on your nights off.

The above sums it up well.

My girlfriend works in a cinema... a lot of the people hired are teens who don't have any work experience but who are in turn getting paid minimum wage or close to it. Where they do hire experienced people they are generally people who have experience of handling money in previous jobs and/or customer facing roles.

The key thing they will want though is flexibility. My gf can be scheduled any day Monday - Sunday on a given week or called in last minute to cover someone who is out sick. (note not saying she works Monday - Sunday but her scheduled can change week on week).

OP just buy the uniform that staff wear. After a week wandering around the cinema the staff will assume you work there.
