Heading to Phuket mid Nov 2013. Can anyone recommend from experience a good quality Hotel or Resort for a middle aged couple. A bit of luxury, near a beach, good restaurant and facilities etc.

Aspery Hotel in Patong - reasonably priced, modern rooms, rooftop pool, 2 minute walk from the Beach and 5 minutes away from the main tourist strip (Bangla Road) and a big shopping centre.

I've stayed here three times (2009, 2012, 2013) and would highly recommend.

Thanks Pretty Boy. I've heard that parts of Patong aren't to everybody's taste. Whats your view?

Definitely not for everyone. Bangla Road is the busiest tourist attraction in Phuket and it will be very busy in November. The majority of the bars there are full of older, single men and plenty of younger Thai women if you get me..the nightlife can be pretty hectic and "in your face". Not a good place for a couple to go IMO, but maybe worth having a look one night just to see what it's like for yourself.

There are a lot of nice hotels and resorts in Phuket which may be more to your liking, a lot of them outside Patong. However, I've never stayed outside of Patong so I'm not much help but if you have any other questions I'll try to answer them as best I can :)

Stayed in Holiday Inn a few years ago for a week also in Nov, a bit pricy but worth it.

Stayed at BYD Lofts last year.

Not cheap but really excellent. Some of our group were staying at the Holiday Inn and BYD was a lot better.

That said, Patong itself is a bit of a dump. Phuket is a large enough island so somewhere else might suit better. There are hundreds of resorts to choose from.
