Myself and my missus were behind this tow truck for several kms on the old Dublin road out of Drogheda the other day.

I was in the passenger seat and thought Id take a pic.

There was also a blue strap that had worked its way loose and was bouncing up off the road and flying through the air every few seconds.
It missed an oncomming motorbiker by a matter of inches.

The car being towed was also weaving from side to side all over the road.

    So my question is this.....

Was/is this a dangerous way to tow a car???

I think you already know the answer is yes

the strap has come loose somehow but it is the drivers responsibility to insure his load is secure

It is strapped down looks like another was tangled along and running along the ground.

I've seen this a lot it looks like the car was hit from behind and the steering locked so the car would be ok to a degree once not booting it and flying round corners.

It's not the safest set-up tbh. Towing from the rear
(with the steering wheel locked in place) is a regular
    occurence for tow truck operators.

However, seeing as the Corolla got a rear end shunt and couldnt
be towed from the front, maybe it would have made more sense
to put it up on the truck bed (and tow the Citroen behind)?

..unless ofcourse the Citroen is mangled on the front and
couldnt be towed behind the truck?! :D

I thought someone would have picked up on no towing lights attached to car.

So it is illegally being towed and judging by trailing strap also dangerous.

Its half arsed I suppose , he should have brake and turn lights on the car. Straps will get free every now and then but if it took me more than a minute to see it

    I noticed that alright.
However, it's actually a very rare sight to see any tow truck with a proper set up - i.e. trailer board/reg plate attached to the vehicle on tow.
