Bord Gais installed a brand new meter for me,when they were trying to detect a reported gas leak outside my house.

The gas chap didnt like the state of the old external gas meter, and he installed a new one for me instead.

Very happy with the workmanship and attitude of the Bord Gais chap.:)

Offered him a cuppa tea as a thankyou gesture, and he was more than happy to have a quick cuppa with us.

That's cause the meter isn't your property. It's the property of BG

Better a new meter then a blown up house or people....

depends if leak is before or after the meter, you could still get a bill, networks dont deal with billing, its your supplier. As it will go, if the leak was after the meter, it will have clocked the meter and you will most likely be charged as you are responsible for everything after the meter, if it was before, you would not

We didnt have a gas leak at all,and our meterbox was actually fine.....but he still replaced the meter,as he felt it was there a fair few years and he felt the personal need to replace it.

Nice chap, nice attitude and good work ethetic too.:)

Fair play to him for changing it

He was and is very anti FG/Labour...talking about his pay packet and pension being raided thanks to both parties.

Nice chap though...very chatty over the cuppa tea and also good/fast worker too.:)

BG arent great for ensuring meters are modern. I seen a old coin operated gas meter 2 years ago, that just had its coin hole filled with putty. Had to be at least well over 30 years old. You never really see ancient ESB meter

Leak on mine was with part of the meter the guy said he was able tighten the fitting and fix it. From looking it's on the supply side so shouldn't of racked up anything on the meter

I wonder if it was a secondary meter, if so BG wouldn't be responsible.

I have one so old it hasn't got the required serial numbers for ESB Networks to connect it to an MPRN. 7/72 scrawled on the backboard above it. New consumer unit is on my list of things to get so I imagine they'll want it replaced then.
