From the Daily Mail: Jonathan Trappe took off this morning from Maine in basically a life raft attached to a load of helium balloons like something from the movie Up!

He is currently above the Gulf of Saint Lawrence approaching Newfoundland. Past there next stop is somewhere between Iceland and Morocco. You can track his progress here and here. If he makes it (big if) he should arrive, perhaps in Ireland, in 3 to 5 days.

What does everyone think? Lunatic or lunatic?

Getting back against the Jet Stream is the real trick, and going the long way round is cheating.

About as relaxing as showering with a dozen cats

He's not exactly original, Lawnchair Larry tried something similar back in 1982, and even though he survived he got what's essentially an honorary Darwin award and I'd be surprised if this muppet isn't heading for one as well.
Mind you he seems a lot better prepared and educated.

I reckon the life raft might come in handy.

Look's like he landed (or crashed) on Newfoundland at the appropriately named "Blow Me Down Provincial Park".

I suspect he knew he wouldn't make it. If he was confident he'd have just left from Newfoundland.

Well, the bubble appears to have burst a little prematurely according to the tracker I'm using.

    Clicky

0 MPH and at 150ft elevation just inland from the west coast of Newfoundland.

Looks like a controlled descent from the footprint of his track so hopefully he's ok.
