I hope Valley Wheelers do not mind me posting this but did this last year and is the best and most challenging 100km I have ever done. Spectacular route with a lot of climbing on stunning very quiet roads over Cork and Kerry mountains that is well worth checking out. It starts from Kilnamartyra at 9am on Sunday October 6th 2013.

Have to agree - great, well run event in scenic and surprisingly challenging countryside [definitely one of those 100km routes that feels like a 160km]. Wouldn't hesitate to recommend it as a season closer to anyone that can travel to it.

Tough, well run event and a 5 km hill towards the end. I'm going.

    Going. Wouldn't miss it.

Even if PMQ gets in again.

Hope this mist and fog is gone by the weekend! Anyone heard if the food stop has been moved as last year I think most folks thought it was way to far out?

Lucky sod. I did it today in the p1ssing rain. Miserable. Serious shorts chafing too, for some reason.

Second this. A great route even if the weather was, shall we say, uncompromising.

A couple of decisions to be made at unmarshalled junctions - if there were signs at them I didn't see them. Not meaning to give the impression there was a scarcity of marshalls at all, there wasn't, but there were plenty of junctions to be dealt with so there were one or two that needed signs.

Hope this grows in future years.

Finished this today. Was drenched to the bone but there was something special about this event that I can't put my finger on. Despite the wet I finished with a smile on my face and had a great day. Hot shower at the end was pure heaven.

Gonna do this one next year and pray for good weather. Big thank you to the 2 Sliabh Luchra ladies who dragged my a** home.

Brilliant route, shocking weather, but kind of suited the course in a weird way. Great climbs. Perfect food stops, no nonsense. Kerry and Cork have the best cycling sportives.

Twas a damp day on the Sunday Treasna Na nGleannta . Great: First class route.
Gaeltachts are certainly alive and well in Cork, with the community hall notice boards posted Irish first and English second. ‘’míolta le fáil sa scoil’’

Most of the higher route was covered in the mist with just glimpses of the vallys. Reckon its is a spectacular route on a clear day.

First time ever in Kilgarvan, where an over sized picture of Michael Healy Rae posted on the side of a van, greeted the riders.
Got destroyed in cow shi*te after leaving Kilgarvan, on ascending a small bothareen. The motor bike marshal up ahead , holding a heard of cows form exiting a farmyard , onto the bothareen as the group passed by. That’s a first. Hot Showers very welcome afterwards.
Makes me want to go back and see the valleys properly. Cork and Kerry have something special alright, but each county to their own.
The County Clare Tour de Burren has fantastic vistas over the atlantic, Mountains dominate the SKT, Wicklow hills, Copper Coasts, Coastal sportives, fishing villages. Truth is, u have do incorporate several sportives across several counties , to get a real feel for this island. Cork and Kerry peninsulas certainly have something special.

As one of the organisers of the Trasna na nGleannta cycle this year I'm delighted that you enjoyed the day. I can say that the Borlin climb is one of the most scenic ones on a clear day and I'm so disappointed that last Sunday was such a drencher :-(

I would highly recommend the West Cork 200 cycle (also availabe in 150 and 100km options). One of the most spectacular and challenging cycles I've done. Usually held on the third Saturday in June, in between the Wicklow 200 and Ring of Kerry.

Hope to see you next year in Kilnamartyra.

    Thanks.

Guys, I'm blown over by your positive comments on this year's cycle. I'm delighted you enjoyed it despite the rain.

As one of the organisers I was bitterly disappointed by the weather but that's one thing we can't control.

If you have any recommendations for improving the cycle I would be delighted to hear them - no matter how harsh they might seem. If we can make the day any way better and more memorable then please let us know.
