2001 E46 320D BMW belts and tensioner replacement

    Folks,

After doing a little reading on the subject it seems it might be a good idea to change the serpentine belt and the tensioner and idler pulleys. These 3 look like a fairly straightforward job. Now I think changing the timing belt tensioner might be a good idea as well but I'm not sure whether I'll manage it myself. Any guide out there? Also what about the crankshaft pulley, what's the best way to check if that's still in good nick, I've heard various stories to "no play" to "a little is ok", any direction appreciated.

Finally any recommendation on where to get these parts.

    Thanks
    Will

You might get a better response on a BMW specific forum.

The 320d has a timing chain surely?

Yes it has a chain, I'm thinking specifically of the belt that drive the auxiliary units, water pump/alternator/aircon etc

I tried the bmw-driver forum but no luck there either...am really surprised that someone else hasn't done this

Yeah. It's a job I'm going to do on my 325ci, however I just haven't bothered just yet. But it definitely needs doing. Plenty of threads and info on the net though. And videos, that being said I've only looked for petrol straight six info...
