    The independent has
Eoin Murray (30) had been fighting for his life since an incident in the Fitzroy area of Melbourne, which is understood to have happened after an Australian Rules football game.
Mr Murray, who was from Leixlip in Kildare, had become an Australian citizen earlier this year.
It is understood his family had travelled to Melbourne to be by his bedside.
Police in the city have said the Irishman was critically injured after hitting his head on a gutter, and are investigating whether it was an accident or if foul play was involved.
They are awaiting the results of a post-mortem but at this stage his death is not being regarded as suspicious.
The 30-year-old was working as head of strategy for a website in Melbourne.
He is a business graduate of Dún Laoghaire Institute of Art, Design and Technology.
It is understood his family had travelled from Ireland to be by his side.
The Department of Foreign Affairs have confirmed they are aware of the incident and are providing consular assistance to the man's family.
