Just a bit of advice needed on how to get rid of an air block in a solid fuel back boiler, was running perfect back in April, lit the fire last night and it just hissed and banged all night and barely heated the rads, spent the day bleeding a the rads , it's still banging, not as bad but l can still hear some air in it, it's not a complicated system and had just one circulation pump on the system which I changed a few yrs ago..

It sounds like you have a problem with circulating pump or stat.
What way do you switch your pump on is it on a switch or a pipe stat and comes on automatically

Make sure your stat is operating the pump or pump is possibly jammed

Solid fuel done properly shouldn't airlock as it rises to the cylinder then to the vent. Check there is water in your small tank in your attic

Funny, this happened the pump for my oil heating at the end of last year when it wasn't used for some months. It hummed like it was working, yet was very hot but not circulating water beyond the closest rad. This in turn caused the oil boiler to cut out (back boilers of course can't do this). Hit it a small smack with a hammer and suddenly the hum slightly changed in tone, and you could hear water gurgling.

    Problem fixed :)

Did you screw off the front bleed screw and check that the pump was turning. As Dtp said check header tank for water
