Free GP service for non-nationals only! - MOD NOTE IN 1ST POST

I came across this earlier on FaceBook. It is a pilot project providing free GP services to Romanians. Irish nationals do not qualify for this free service. The link is to a Sunday World article. While I would usually take what they say with a pinch of salt, there must be some truth behind it. I am fuming with the thought of this crazy idea. Why the fcuk do I, as an Irish tax paying citizen have to pay for my GP visits when non nationals can get GP visits for free?

    LINK

MOD NOTE: Feel free to discuss the topic, but racist rants will not be accepted.

Most Romanians strongly dislike Roma Gypsies. Its like calling all Irish people "travelers".

Homeless people receive free health care in a certain soup kitchen in Dublin, meaning Irish homeless have access to free GP services.

Ah come on - The majority of the Roma settled in Romania after coming from India originally , The majority of the Roma are from Romania , hold Romanian passports - so are Romanian - not exclusively so , but majority are

a bit like the English born travelers in the UK , could be 3 generations in the UK but will always seen as Irish , even if they hold an UK passport

And its not just the Irish that call the Roma Romanian , I have heard Germans , British and Finns refer to them as Romanian.

but all this said , typical SW crap , no different to the Telegraph in the UK , when the travelers in the UK get caught doing something they ALWAYS point out their Irish lineage

Same story here though not from a tabloid
    http://www.irishhealth.com/article.html?id=21793

Tallaght Roma Integration Project have been working on this since 2009

Some of the problems found were:
No access to a Medical Card and therefore no access to a GP.
Participants reported regular attendance at Tallaght Hospital for themselves and their children.
Participants reported on occasion using another person’s medical card to attend A & E.
Participants reported not being able to pay €100 A & E charge and therefore not returning for outpatient follow-up appointments.

That's off a powerpoint on the first link in google, I don't know how to give a link

The clinic is setup now and it stops the users going into A & E so that frees up the hospital. Don't we have many threads in AH about A & E getting clogged up by people who have no need to be there.

It's open once a week and the rest of the time it does other work like dealing with homeless in South Dublin Co Council.

Once a week the clinic is there for the Roma and it is free of charge. No medical card required, no 100 euro hospital fee and no GP fee which I suppose is around 45-55 these days.

The service is free to the users

I'm not opposed to it, the fact is we can't have deceased people lying around the streets dying. It could lead to infecting other people and breed nasty new diseases.

You can always spot an idiot when they label Roma gypsies as Romanians.

Romanians are some of the hardest workers of any group in this country and contribute a ****load to this country in taxes and productivity.

Most Roma Gypsies in Ireland are actually from Bulgaria by the way. But like most people outraged with 'dem bleedin foraneers destroying our country" lets not get facts or anything else get in the way...otherwise we might have no one to blame for our own situation but ourselves!

There's an explanation as to why your thread was closed in the thread itself. As it was, without a link, it was just hearsay. These threads had links in them. I didn't merged the threads with yours because there's honestly nothing special that needs to be carried over. Now please get back to the topic.

the 5th one down is the one that is being flagged

You could argue for and against this really. But realistically the people being treated are already in this country, like it or not. People complain about lengthy delays in A&E as is, so surely this service is a good thing, even in that respect. The alternative is leaving people to suffer and die on the streets. I would hate to see that happen to anyone, regardless of culture or nationality.

but i think what is getting some peoples knickers in a twist is that becasue of this , there is a perception that they have a bespoke service and DONT have to wait in A+E like the rest of the population,
No one likes a que jumper as it were, even if this is a incorrect perception , the Sunday scum is pushing that idea

About two seconds on Google tells me it is funded by the HSE Social Inclusion Department.

At the end of the day providing free health care to people who may otherwise struggle to get it is a good idea, socially responsible and saves money in the long run.

Injuries and illness caught now dont turn into bigger issues in future that require further and more expensive treatments.

I generally dont agree with such schemes but **** it, i see the logic behind this at least.
