so this is a step in the right direction.
Pyschologically better than the 90 mile range discussed here before. Once we hit 200-250 ranges then EVs will become more viable imo

Isn't fast charging to 80% what will ultimately kill the battery?

But at the same time, a Golf is a Golf. :D

    Whats the specs behind it.

Like is it 118 miles at 60mph. Or 118 round the city.

Like theres a Chinese bike that can do 173 mpg. But you have to stick to 30 mph

    Idiots ...

They should have used the Octavia ... If they filled the boot with batteries it could go at least 27000 miles on one charge.

    :D

Thats not so much a problem with Li-Ion type battery technologies. It will have an Intelligent BMS that will control the lows and highs anyhow, so the "dead to 80%" is likely not actually really either of those extremes.

    I think it's a standard estimation at 62mph...
Accelerating from 0-62 miles per hour takes 10.4 seconds in the electrified seventh-generation Golf, according to VW, and top speed is electronically limited to 87 mph. As stated earlier, the powertrain gives the e-Golf a range of 118 miles, and VW is quick to point out that the car, helped by its low drag coefficient of 0.28, manages to use about 12.7 kWh of energy per 62 miles, depending on driving style.

    Dont forget its a golf!

So it will be more expensive and less reliable than the others.......

And the batteries are probably extra :p

Not a bad range, but I don't think I'd buy an EV until they get ranges much closer to that found on a current ICE car, i.e a long time from now. I don't forsee the charging infrastructure improving much over the the next few years either.

Personally, I think hybrid is the way to go, given you get ev-like consumption around town without the range limitation.

Whats the story with the dc intelligent charger you need for the 30 min charge. Price and what power input needed to run it

€35,000 in Germany, same as the projected price of the BMW i3. Available in Germany from mid 2014.

The e-UP! is €26,000 which is €5000 more than the Renault Zoe, although you need to rent a battery for the Zoe for €79 a month (prices in Germany).
