Query - restoring factory settings on Dell Inspiron 15R 7520

Using a Dell Inspiron 15R 7520 laptop with Windows 8.

Having constant freezing over the last few days.
Firefox / Explorer “not responding” after 10 / 15 minutes of browsing.
    Taskbar rarely engaging.

Ran the hardware diagnostic with the Dell customer service person. No issues. Warranty still in date but only covers hardware faults.

I had already backed up the files I needed so at about 9.15pm last night I went into the Recovery section and decided to restore factory settings. My laptop screen has been saying “re-starting” ever since and was still like that this morning at 7.00am. Have left it running while I am work.

I’m wondering if it normally takes this long to restore factory settings? Or is this the sign of another problem?

I do have back up recovery DVDs that I made last January when I purchased the laptop.

Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks.
