What times a bad time to eat?

Started a new job recently, so am not usually getting home until 9/10pm each evening.

By that time I would not have eaten since my lunchbreak, usually 2 or 3pm that day so am always STARVING when I get in.

My question being is this too late to have a dinner?

My tummy always feels weird around 4am when I'd wake up after eating late-ish and id feel literally bloated in bed.

    Thanks :)

    When you're not hungry.
    When you dont feel well.
    When you are full.

If it affects your sleep, eat a little less. Or eat more during the day.

I just finished a pretty hefty dinner. I always thought it would affect my sleep or something but I've been doing this dinner at 10ish for a good few weeks now with no negative effects.

I sometimes eat late too but I don't think I would if I was waking at 4am like the OP

Yeah don't know how I missed that fairly important point! OP if you're working late could you eat something in work before the end of your shift?

when I worked nights I would commonly do 15-18+ hour shifts.
usually eating when I got home right before going to bed and never got any bad effects from doing it.

    each person will be different.
Only you will know when is a bad time for you to eat. and no-one else can tell you different, despite what they insist.
If you're uncomfortable eating late then you'll have to eat earlier. If you're not carry on.
But if you're waking up with a dodgy stomach and feel bloated then try to eat earlier for a while see if it changes for you.
Pack a lunch, bring a flask.

As someone who works shifts and quite erratic shifts at that. For example I worked yesterday 7a.m to 7pm and am now back in 7p.m tonight till 7a.m tomorrow morning.

I find eating regularly never letting myself be to the point of starving eating five to six times a day even if some of them are smallish snacks.

Basically try eat a bit more before you get home then cut down on the size of the dinner you do have and you shouldn't feel as bloated, going to bed starving will leave you feeling worse when you wake up.

At least that what I find works for me.
