    This is worth a cross-post:

At last the NTA has released the draft GDA cycle network:

    http://www.nationaltransport.ie/public-consultations/current/cycle-network/

"The National Transport Authority today (September 10,2013) launched a public consultation to seek the views of the public and interested parties on its draft Consultation on Cycle Network proposals for the Greater Dublin Area. The Proposals include increasing the length of the region’s cycle network to 2,840km (from today’s 500km), and includes primary and secondary routes, as well as Greenways."

"Please note the closing date – 5.00pm on Monday, October 14th, 2013."

Need to change that title to "Dublin Cyclists" since it would have little relevance to the rest of us ;)

You'll just have to go on longer spins then ...

typical Irish solution: more segregation. without education these will just become more walking-parking-wheeliebin lanes. and more windows rolled down shouting "get off the road".

According to the sub-headline, the target is the same as the NTA estimate of current number of daily cycling.

Great work - target reached! :)

Engineers Ireland has a presentaton on this tonight at 6:30, from the NTA and the consultants who worked on the report. The flyer says 'All are welcome', or you can watch online.

I'm puzzled! It refers to the cycle track along the R132 at Pinnock Hill to The Coachman's roundabout as "poor" and only scoring a 'D'.

In my opinion it is one of the better ones as it is a simple edge of road design, with full bus lane and full traffic lane to the right allowing buses to pass without having to move out. It also has a good surface and excellent visability with limited exits allowing a good momentum and it doesn't involve having to leave the road like many of those silly segregated lanes.

On my 28km trip to the city center ,it's easily the best piece of cycle infrastructure.

It also refers to 'advisory' and 'mandatory' lanes. I though since the change in legislation last year, all were advisory?

'Mandatory', confusingly, has always meant 'mandatory for cars to keep out'.

i was up north yesterday and notice a cycle lane beside the A1 heading south towards Newry. One around the M50 would be great

I'd be a bit worried about this "never mind the quality, feel the length" approach - I'd prefer if they added 500km of really good, well designed and thought out infrastructure rather than going for lots and lots of what's there already, which, with some notable exceptions, is not good bordering on pretty poor.

I'm also planning to invest in the companies that make red sand and white paint - I'd say they'll be doing well over the next few years :D

The A1 is a standard dual carriageway- not a motorway.

Leaving aside the dangers and infrastructural difficulties, I can't see what would be attractive about a cycle lane around the M50. It's quicker on a bike to go through the city centre (and a lot more interesting).

It could be a good initiative if only I could study the information properly to assess it. IMHO its not very convenient to dip into and search is it? I found a map of my town and can see route between it and a nearby town and the route reference number but cannot see anything when I search for the route for more information, so what needs to happen to make that route happen? Information is spread across, is it, 8 documents, all of them fairly big and awkward to work through. How are people supposed to assess the proposal decently and give feedback to the proposals? :(

They obviously did an enormous amount of work on this. But the maps seem a bit lacking in detail, compared to the reports in general.

Is Registration free? I'm not a member, but I'd been led to believe that the live feed was available to anyone. Apologies if I was misinformed!

Isn't it a shared footpath and often overgrown trees on it?

Don't cycle it but it looks very poor to me and cars tend to be speeding there too.

No problem, I had seen the leaflet via else where too and was more posting to see if anybody had the password. No sign of one on their site or leaflet.

It's not shared and there is no vegetation on it. You must be confusing it with another!
