Moved out of my flat almost two months ago where I was getting rent allowance. Received a letter today from a social welfare person asking why I hadn't paid my landlord for 3 months rent and when I will be paying him back. Never owed the bloke 3 months rent. The letter was like somthing a bank would send someone for debt collection except it was from social welfare. Thought it very cheaky of them.

Did you give any notice to your LL that you were leaving.

Did you inform welfare that you were leaving.

The landlord gave me notice to leave and I left a week and half before move out date given. I notified welfare to stop rent allowance at post office as I had moved out. And collected no more rent allowance. I handed the keys back to an employee of landlord in an envelope to give back to him.

Did your landlord tell SW you hadn't paid?

It was so much easier to blame it on Them. It was bleakly depressing to think that They were Us. If it was Them, then nothing was anyone's fault. If it was us, what did that make Me? After all, I'm one of Us. I must be. I've certainly never thought of myself as one of Them. No one ever thinks of themselves as one of Them. We're always one of Us. It's Them that do the bad things.

Yes he certainly did even though the rental contract was between me and him.

Maybe goto a local CIC and ask a solicitor their for advice or ring up FLAC

Do you have any receipts of payment?
