Have to watch it this evening with the house mates. Dreading it, only thing that keeps me sitting through it is that we watch breaking bad immediately after.

Well said, zoned out several times. The scene with Harrison and the treadmill was comical.

I used to save Dexter for last, now I just get it out of the way so I can watch Breaking Bad. :(

    "Don't miss the stunning conclusion...."

Me f*cking arse. This is not the same show we all watched and loved. Nothing about this ending is stunning.

    Cathartic tbh.

In the Breaking Bad thread someone said they spent the last ten mintues going
    "Don't end, don't end, don't end...."

I'm here 5 mins from the end of Dex thinking
"C'mon END, I wanna go make a snack!"

    :eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek:

    OMFG!!!!!!!11

    What an ending!! I can't believe Vogel's dead!?!?!?!!!!!!!11111!!1!!11!

    Oh wait, I don't care.

Remind me again why I should feel like Saxon is a serious threat to Dexter. Trinity felt like a worthy match, a true adversary. We met this chump two episodes ago and have no idea what he's like.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,814 ✭✭✭FortuneChip

    Well that was a chore.

At least Vogel is gone. She made a life for herself chasing down psychopaths and trying to mother them. Shocked that didn't end well for her.

The Harry scenes are bloody awful now as well.
"This works two ways" "So if he can see Vogel's computer..." "I can see his" "We're great at this Dexter"

Anyone else bloody cringe any time they hear the word "Argentina" now?

It's actually sad what this program has become. I still love it dearly but my goodness that death at the end was the only good thing about the episode.

Her Son would have been a great season long character assuming we only found out he was the son a few episodes ago.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,995 ✭✭✭Sofiztikated

    It's getting difficult now.

Dexter sees Vogel get her throat cut in front of his eyes, breaks the door down, and doesn't look to see if Saxon is still there. Christ, he could just be standing there. I was waiting for a needle to slide into Dexters neck, but no, he's fúcking vanished.

Masukas daughter turns up high, "Hi dad, bye dad" what in the good fúck was that about? There better be a good reason for that, otherwise what was the point?

So Jaime is off to Atlanta?

And seriously, how has Harrison not mentioned Hannah to anyone? Seeing as he has spent 26 hours a day with Jaime until this episode, and apparently loves the shìt out of McKay.

How many is left? 2? I genuinely don't know if I can spend another 1 and 50 minutes on this. And that makes me sad.

It even feels like Hall is just phoning in his performance.

Hmmm... I jumped ship 2 episodes into the series.. and doesn't look it's picked up!

I'll probably watch the final few minutes of the last episode just to see how it all ends.

This. I've last weeks still to watch. No-way I'm sitting through 2 hours of Dickster especially after Breaking Bad turning in a stunning performance last night and the newest Boardwalk out as well.

You have to wonder what Michael C. Hall makes of it all. I reckon he knows how ****e it is, maybe that's why he's acting so poorly.

McKay has been in hiding long enough to at least consider putting on a hat when going out in public.

And despite all the talk about needing to lie low, she and Dexter sit outside in the evenings, clearly illuminated by those tacky lanterns, overlooking a public beach where any of Deb's friends/co-workers could pop by to say hello, most of which work for the goddamn police force.

The decline in standards is really depressing. I used to love this show, now it's just a chore to watch.

What is the story with Masuka's daughter. I mean i don't see what impact she has on the show. Even her scene this week was just pointless. Their better be a stroyline behind her coming into the show.

Even if there is it'll just come out of the blue and be total nonsense writing. The damage has been done well early in the season to redeem itself now whatever she turns out to be.

Again on Hannah - how the hell has she not got a brunette wig or SOMETHING in case she's to go outside!

Elway does my head in. He's obviously just there to throw a spanner in the works at the last minute. Worst character in the season (apart from Masuka's daughter).

Dexter truly is the worst drama on television now, it's so far ahead of the pack in terms of tedium and ineptitude it boggles the mind this was ever considered a stellar series. Heck, it boggles the mind that there's nobody in Showtime willing or able to pull the writers up on this excrement. I do genuinely wonder how on earth these scripts got past the editor, or any form of quality control.

I also found myself curious if there is anyone out there even remotely enjoying this season; usually even the weakest of seasons can attract a champion or two, someone who'll claim to find the odd diamond in the rough. It's hard to imagine there's anyone out there who could seriously take pleasure in watching this.

2 episodes left though? Christ, I thought this was the penultimate. There's gotta be a better use of my time in the evenings. Throwing bleach in my eyes perhaps.

Oh, actually, I knew there was at least one nugget of brilliance in this week's instalment that was worth mentioning: ladies and gentleman, boys and girls, did you know that SPYWARE WORKS IN REVERSE? Ruh-oh!

Excellent episode as always with Season 8.

Technology: Clever use of computers and reversing spy ware. I never knew that but now I do! Watch out NSA!

Exposition: Also loved how they knew we couldn't keep up with the spyware plot arc so Ghost Daddy and Dexter stepped us through it so all the slower five year old children could keep up. Nice to remember all your viewers - thanks writing team!

Directing: How tense was it when Harrison fell off the running machine? My heart beat so fast I almost woke from the lethargic stupor the show had induced in me! Watching him go flying across the room like a balloon with the air let out should make the likes of Spielberg, Cuaron, Fincher and more tremble behind their statues.

Characters: I'm really glad we got closure on Deb and Quinn! Like most of you here I thought it was a superb character arc and it was great to take time out of the third last ever episode for them to get back together. Which reminds me...

Music: Loved the music over Deb and Quinn's reunion! The cheesy tunes were just perfect. It both takes you into the moment and then takes you out as you pick up the remote you threw towards the TV.

Anticipation: Just what is going on with Masouka's daughter? I'm really eager to find out if she can give up pot! It's a brilliant way to use up the time in the next two final ever episodes and she is definitely the most relevant character ever introduced into a series. Well worth casting.

Acting: Big hand for all involved here! Particular note for Vogel's son, played by Ryan Gosling's younger brother. By putting in such a cringe-inducing melodramatic performance he makes us question the concept of transformation: As he transformations into the parody of a killer, does he echo the show? Will he kill others as our own expectations have been killed?

Fore-shadowing: Now this is particularly clever, so I left it to last. Recall how Charlotte Rampling has turned in a monotone performance, devoid of any life throughout the season?
Now some might have called a weak script and perhaps an actor who was severely depressed at having signed up to this crap. But they'd be wrong: It was fore-shadowing, preparation for how she would have to act when she was dead. That deadpan phoning-it-in performance was the writer's smart attempt to let us know just what was coming up. We were both horrified then when she got her throat cut but, as she lay on the floor staring, we realised that there was barely any difference in her performance. Fore-shadowing!

Genuinely laughed out loud at this.

    ~

The scene of Harrison lying there covered in blood got to me, but only because I have a child the same age. (Well, until he started shouting OW over and over.)

Otherwise, I'm struggling. And I've been a defender up until now. I don't care about Vogel or Oliver Saxon at all. I'm trying to think back and I don't think I've really cared about a new character since Brother Sam. Everyone since has just been a bit one-note. Hannah started out as mildly interesting but now she's reduced to being a cook and a sounding-board for Dexter - who also has voiceovers and Ghost!Harry. Somebody needs to let the writers know about this whole 'show, not tell' concept.

To think I used to champion this show...

Depressingly bad ****e. Won't dignify it with a better description.

Just finished it there. I guess the time I'm watching it perfectly sums up how this show has gone for me. In previous seasons, I would have watched it as soon as I woke up on Monday morning. Now it's the last thing I watch from the three shows that air on a Sunday night for me.

Another poor episode, somewhat saved by the last scene. Like the OP, I was more focused on rearranging my apps on my phone than this episode. Ohh how it could have been great. This is probably the biggest fluff I've seen of what used to be a great series. Ahh well! I'll watch it to the end and close the chapter for good.

Reminds me of one of these shows that air during the summer and you know after one episode that they'll never in a life time be renewed for another series.

Its bad but there is much worse out there. That it used to be so good and has turned to ****e is making a lot of fans, you seemingly, and me pissed off at it. Im hurt that it has fallen so low. Did they not read the script and go, "really? this is the best we can come up with?"

Im amazed Masouka didnt try to get into his daughters knickers yet. Thats the old Masouka. This responsible, non-pot smoking guy is just weird.

Quinn: "Moving from New York was the best thing I did". How? You hit the bottle, got involved in the rusian mafia, and how you still have a job is a genuine surprise.

Watching the spyware bit now. Oh god. No! It doesnt work like that!

Please... Just end this show. I spend every second Vogel or her son is on screen just cringing at how bad their both acting and dialogue are. The story has also gone even more stupid. Not ridiculous and far fetched, just mind-numbingly dull, plain and boring.

"Stay away from aunt Deb's dangerous treadmill Harrison."
Are they actually for real? They might as well have just flashed in capital letters across the screen THE CHILD GETS HURT ON THIS LATER. It would have provided roughly the same level of tension.

Ok, hyperbole on my part, but Dexter seems to have dropped the ball so spectacularly it's hard not to award it 'Worst show' by dint of how far it has fallen. Plenty of dramas start bad and are quickly forgotten in time; equally, many shows hit rocky patches or just run out of good ideas and putter to a mediocre end. Dexter, on the other hand, has gone from must-watch to oh-god-can't-watch; the scripts are so appallingly bad, on nearly every conceivable level of basic narrative, 'mediocre' seems like a stretch to them.

Just watched the treadmill bit. She took him to the ER because he fell? Maybe my parents neglected me but that amount of blood would have warranted a second bowl of ice cream at the max. A trip to A&E? That was for broken bones and tropical diseases. Turns out he got 6 stitches, and its covered with a single plaster.

Your right, its fall from grace amplifies how bad it is now.

F*^ks sake. He was less upset at Harrys death, Ritas death, La Guerta's death, Brian's death etc.

Oh GAWD, it was as though they tried to shoehorn in some artistry with that scene:
'Wow ghost dad, I'm in the same kill room as the pilot episode; isn't it amazing how everything has come full circle but now I'm so different and so much has changed!'

    NO.

    F*cking LOL :D

Honestly, reading the weekly boards thread is the best part of the show.

I never use twitter, but I searched #dexter last night, seems to get both good and bad reviews, rather than the absolute slating it gets here.
Scott Reynolds (the writer of last night's ep) posted a reaction video of his friends watching the ending; they all lost their **** when Vogel got killed "OHHHHHHH NO. WAY!!!111!"

Were they just being nice because he was in the room?

How is anybody buying into this shitbag storyline!?!??!?!

Its common in America for people being vocal about their surprises, love etc of movies or TV series they are watching. A mate of mine went to see the A Team in the US and he said you would swear it was a call to arms from Abe Lincoln with all the pride and whoops of joy.

I just meant because it was a shite portrayal of a shite development in a shite season :P

Wasn't Dexter's original plan to go after killers that slipped through the justice system? Now he goes after anyone, not caring about all the unsolved cases it leaves.

And why didn't Hannah also try Deb at least before bringing Harrison to the psychic doctor who knew his name before Hannah handed back the paperwork?

I think one of the main problems with the Vogel story is that we had no idea she had a dead son until the episode it was revealed that he wasn't so dead after all. On a basic dramatic level, that's awful storytelling. They needed to introduce the idea that her son had died much earlier on in the season, but found some way of doing so without signposting the fact that he was still alive. The only way to do that would be to give us a proper red herring to distract us - someone much more believable than Yates. When most of your audience is shouting 'there's no way he's the brain surgeon' at the television, you've failed in what you're trying to do.

I don't know why they didn't use the ex-husband she keeps talking about. If, say, she thought it was him who was the brain surgeon because he blamed her for Daniel's death, we'd have the shock of realising Daniel was still alive plus the potential for a lot more interesting character development.

Dexter's facial expression every time he mentions leaving for *that place* with Hannah makes me want to commit violent crimes...that stupid, dreamy smile is so far gone from the original dark, brooding and slightly scary Dexter of Season 1 that we loved :(

This season has to be the worst in the entire series with respects to scripting. To be honest, I still enjoy it, because I've always enjoyed Dexter because of the time invested in its characters despite fluctuating quality control, but what were once occasional acceptable oversights are now an embarrassing staple of the show. There were so many things wrong with that episode it's impossible to know where to begin - but it's quite clear that showtime stopped giving the faintest crap about the show a long time ago.

At this point I just want Dexter to either end up on a table, or else be forced to live with the fact that everyone he has grown to love has died because of him, either way, I'm not bothered anymore - I just want it to end so I can walk away and be done with it.
