Classic car,truck or hot rod for towing

I am almost finished my 1950's style mahogany V8 speedboat and am thinking of getting a classic to tow her with so something with good pulling power and clutch. I like the 50's pickup's but they are few and far between here so I'm looking for any ideas you guy's might have "photos would be great"

Do you intend to launch regularly or to travel a good bit of mileage to do so?
Or is it for occasional show use for sh*ts and giggles?

Just occasional use about 6 - 10 times a year for different meets around Ireland I would also like to get classic tax and insurance:)

Nice woody but I think the closest I could find here would be a Morris minor traveller:D
The P6 would be a good one and sound nice but it's a bit too new in the years.

101 will tow anything all day with great soundtrack but at 12mpg! They aren't a slouch either, very scary 80mph flat out with engine screaming it's nuts off Minimum of €5-6000 for a good one though (and mine isn't for sale!)

Proper 1950s Land Rover tow car would be a Series One Tickford station wagon but they are very rare and very expensive.

If the Rover P6 is too new for you, a V8 P5B might look the part.


Despite my Land Rover fetish, I do admire 1950s yank pick ups.

Funny you should say that, my Dad had one when I was a kid and I can remember the smell of a burning clutch once when he was launching his boat and now every time I get that smell it brings me right back:)

That Dodge van has a lot of potential.
Lowered over a nice set of whitewalls and a nice bright paintjob, that matt black does nothing for it.

I'm leaning towards a van because my son is in a wheelchair and it would be nice to have the option to bring him along "Not sure how the insurance will work on that" at the moment he is light enough that I just have to use telescopic ramps so no need for a hydraulic one yet.
