I overheard a statement recently that sums up things for me: "Im more spiritual than religious", meaning I dont have to go to mass weekly to affirm that there is something there.

Is it a higher power? A God? An architect ala the Matrix? (its been proven by a few that there's a mathematical equation to the ebb and flow of the universe, technology keeps doubling its capacity and RAM every few years, so are we part of a game?)

    or something else?

    What do you believe in?

I believe that when you die you are gone forever. I still do the whole 'treat others as you want to be treated' thing though because its nice to be nice.

I can't help but think religious people are like kids believing in santa, especially in this day and age but I'm not going to try convert them to my way of thinking because that's ignorant.

I'm not actually sure. I wouldn't say spiritual, but religion itself.. I've been battling this one out for a while. I used to be highly sceptical that there was a god, but I've softened a bit on the idea. I like to believe that there is something to it, but I don't think I can be part of it as a catholic as I was brought up. I recently spoke with a baptist lady, absolutely lovely person. In not so many words she told me that they use the baptist word as a way of identification but they are non-denominational, and they don't want to be tagged with any specific religious leanings, so to speak. I will get a chance to speak with her again, as I want to know more.

Out of interest, what do you believe in? Puns and lyrics aside.

    I believe, I believe,
    I believe in wishing wells,
But I also believe in a lot of things,
    Things the daisy tells,
    I believe, I believe that a four-leaf clover brings,
Lots of luck, lots of joy, lots of happiness,
    I believe those things.
And when it's christmas time I believe in santa claus,
Why do I believe, I guess that I believe because
    I believe, I believe,
I believe that dreams come true,
If you wish for a dream by a wishing well,
Don't tell your wish or you'll break the spell,
It may sound naive, but that's what I believe.

Funny enough but I have said similar in the past. At school anyone over the age of say 10 or so that believes in Santa is laughed at. Yet a high percentage of adults believe in something equally invisible.

I'm not havin a go at religious people btw. Each to their own and all that. As long as they don't shove it down other peoples' throat then I don't care.

I agree re when you die you are gone forever. (Imo of course) However I pray I'm wrong. ;-)

As I said Im more spiritual than religious. I think we are all capable of controlling our destinations as the human mind is a force that we've only tapped a bit into. Is God a big man in the sky with a white beard? No. Is there a God in the guiding spiritual sense? Yes.

Wouldn't say being more spiritual than religious is an excuse that means you dont have to adhire to religious norms. Spiritual can mean a path in life for people, a certain way of living or natural drive they have without any religious or God association at all, or affirmation that there is something there.. yolo

My serious answer is that I don't believe there's any rhyme or reason as to why we're here. We're just here, and once we're gone, we're gone.

However, and this may sound strange given I don't believe in a higher power, I do believe in karma. I know it's not always the case, but I believe that if you're good to people they'll ultimately be good to you.

Ahh nuts, it's basically Tesco's by-line for their adverts, I think it's Marty Whelan does the voice-over:

"Our chickens are down to half price, our so and so is down to half price, and once they're gone, they're gone"...

Totally ripped the arse out of that joke having to explain it :(

This is the big problem I have with people who say they don't believe that there is an ultimate reason why we're here, or that there's nothing beyond our ability to know:

Who can honestly believe this bull**** idea that people are good? Anyone over the age of 10 knows it to be totally untrue.

The idea of god is there to hide the fact that we are sacks of meat, disposable animals, held up by bones.
