We built a new two story house 2 years ago and put a flat on the ground floor. we are having problems with sound travelling around the house especially from the upstairs floor. We should have put in concrete floors. We have timber floors up stairs on top of ply wood there is 4 inches of insulation packed in between the joices and just ordinary plaster board on the ceiling. We need to sound proof it any suggestions on how we can do this ?

What kind of insulation is packed. Is it rock wool batt? and have you an underlay under the wooden floor?

You won't be able to complete sound proof as that would be crazy for a house. you could just treat the traveling sound.

Packing in heavier insulation on the floor and walls. You could use compressed rockwool RW3 or their is another with heavier weight and was designed for the purpose.

Contact a supplier and ask for the heavier rockwool for acoustic purpose.
