    It seems to be spot on for some of the reasoning behind Iraqi and Libyan invasions. The US and Israel are the biggest obstructions to world peace and the advancement of human civilisation. I fear we are creeping very close to another world war. Russian/US relations are icy cold at the moment. The cold war is alive and well but it's not the "commies" that are the threat as we were lead to believe.

    Libya was a shining example of how to run a country in Africa or the Muslim world. The bull**** propaganda we were fed hides the truth of Libya. The jewel in the crown of African nations. He may not have been perfect but Libyans had the best standard of living in all of Africa.

    The current target is Syria with Iran firmly on the radar for next year. That's the one that could push the Russians into taking a stronger stance against US intervention and could push us into another world war.

    i dunno about that. he makes the right noises to keep his people happy but in the background i suspect he's fairly subservient to the US. If not i would wager they'd been in there long before now.

    Didn't the US just agree that 'Russia's' suggestion that Syria decommission/hand over all chemical weapons before launching an attack is a good idea?

    I hope you're right but all of the posturing by the US and Israel over the last few years seems to be taking us in the direction of Iran.

    Iran will not be allowed to get nuclear weapons. Make no mistake about that. Not because they are seen as a threat to Israel or the US/Europe but because of the power and stability nuclear weapons would give Iran and it's allies.

    If Gaddafi had nukes you can bet there would have been no CIA led coup against him. I can guarantee you the Libyan people are far worse off now that Gaddafi is gone as well.

    Do you really think the Libyan people wanted Gadaffi out when they had;

    Free Healthcare;
    Free Education either inside Libya or outside with Government grants to support their education abroad;
    A comprehensive social welfare system;
    Grants to buy cars;
    Very cheap government provided petrol/diesel;
    Big housing grants;
    Very cheap government subsidised food;
    Big spending in the infrastructure of the country;
    Forbid more than 1 private property dwelling per person to prevent the wealthy amassing rental properties denying the population cheap property.

    It might seem to be a bit Socialist for some people but all of this was funded by Libya's oil wealth. It was distributed amongst the people rather than to the 1%. Which is the better policy?

    Bloodbath, I can spot a fanatic a mile away. In your case I required minimal vision. I will say this though: your Utopian version of Gaddafi's savage dictatorship reflects more on you than the already dismantled horror that was your idol's Libya.

    I'm stating facts. If you have proof of otherwise please provide it. I know he wasn't a saint but compared to other African leaders he was. Now have you got anything reasonable to say or will I just report you now?

    Savage dictatorship? What a joke.

    From a bloodless coup to 40 years of rule you couldn't call his leadership savage and definitely not enough to warrant a coup by the west. You're being very ignorant if you think Libya was "liberated" for the sake of it's people. Look at the scale of atrocities going on across the rest of Africa and tell me why America and Europe gives a crap about Libya which pales in significance to the other countries "savagery"?

    Do you honestly buy the lies Washington has been spinning for the last several decades? The exact same thing is happening in Syria now. The US backs "Al Qaeda" militants and when the government crushes the resistance they claim crimes against humanity and the killing of civilians. This coming from a nation responsible for the deaths and displacement of millions of civilians in recent decades.
    On 27 June, the ICC issued arrest warrants for Gaddafi, his son Saif al-Islam, and his brother-in-law Abdullah Senussi, head of state security for charges, concerning crimes against humanity.[268] Libyan officials rejected the ICC, claiming that it had "no legitimacy whatsoever" and highlighting that "all of its activities are directed at African leaders".[269] That month, Amnesty International published their findings, in which they asserted that many of the accusations of mass human rights abuses made against Gaddafist forces lacked credible evidence, and were instead fabrications of the rebel forces which had been readily adopted by the western media.[270] On 15 July 2011, at a meeting in Istanbul, over 30 governments recognised the NTC as the legitimate government of Libya. Gaddafi responded to the announcement with a speech on Libyan national television, in which he called on supporters to "Trample on those recognitions, trample on them under your feet ... They are worthless".[1] By mid-August, over 2000 of Libya's 2,335 tribes remained loyal to Gaddafi, and his approval rates soared to 85% in the midst of NATO bombings.[271]

    On 9 January 2013, the Libyan Ministry of the Interior reported that the number of murders has risen from 87 in 2010 to 525 in 2012 — a 503% increase —, while thefts over the same period have risen from 143 to 783 — a 448% increase.[57] In September 2013, armed groups were blockading oilfields.[58]
    On 26 January 2012, Doctors Without Borders (MSF) announced that it had suspended its operations in detention centres in Misrata due to detainees there being tortured and denied urgent medical care.[60][61]

    Libyan officials acknowledged that prisoners held by revolutionary forces had been abused, but insisted that the mistreatment had been committed by militias not yet under the control of the new government and that the authorities were trying to eliminate it. A law passed by the NTC ordered militias to refer all cases against Gaddafi supporters to government prosecutors by 1 July 2012.[62]

    According to the UN, about 4,000 alleged loyalists were still detained in rebel controlled centres as of May 2012.[63]
