If I take a screen shot of a conversation I am having with someone on Facebook and publish its contents on my wall or a public forum without the others consent, is this illegal and what laws would I be breaking?

It's not illegal. It's your conversation.

In general it is not illegal to disclose the contents of a conversation, even if the other party objects. However, specific circumstances could override this, such as:
    • defamation
    • harassment/intimidation
    • breach of contract (e.g. non-disclosure agreement)

In other words, it could be either legal or illegal, it depends on the content of the conversation and the circumstances surrounding it.

What about laws regarding recording conversations - how are they worded? Do they explicitly refer to audio recordings?
