I know there are a few threads on this subject but I have one of these next week and was just wondering what to expect. It said on the letter it will last 3 hours. Surely it's not just a 3 hour long presentation?

I think it is - maybe 2 hours

They will talk through different things like social welfare, fas, your options etc - maybe things like how to look for jobs

You will then get a one to one session with Fas or a local employment service.

It was so much easier to blame it on Them. It was bleakly depressing to think that They were Us. If it was Them, then nothing was anyone's fault. If it was us, what did that make Me? After all, I'm one of Us. I must be. I've certainly never thought of myself as one of Them. No one ever thinks of themselves as one of Them. We're always one of Us. It's Them that do the bad things.

I had one in Parnell St a couple of weeks ago and it was only about 20 mins long. It was a presentation where they went through the different schemes to get back to work and training courses and then everyone was given a specific appointment time within the next two days to have a one-on-one meeting. Mine was very short but I'd say that could be longer - CV advice and more specific job hunting/training advice.

I had one last week, and it was a 30 minute presentation of different options. There were about 15 of us, and we were all given appointments for a one-on-one session two weeks or so from that day.

It said nothing in my letter about length of time. I seem to remember my OH having to go to one last year that was a few hours long, and covered CV writing and stuff.

I have one today but i am already with TUS and had an interview with TUS but i was told that i cannot do a course while registered with TUS. So how does this work out for me with a course if they will not allow me to do one ?

If you have not started your TUS placement yet, you still have other options to activate yourself. If y

I see. I was just wondering, because if i was in the middle of doing a course and TUS called me up i was worried that i might be forced to leave the course to do TUS.

    Have you asked TUS?

I asked them (TUS) at the interview about doing a course but they said that if i'm called to work for TUS i will have to do it and cannot do the course as well. so i am a bit confused on this issue.

I will have to contact them again about this because i would not be too happy to be pulled out of a course halfway through to be forced on this TUS. Surely they would let you finish the course first.

Well i just got back from that social welfare presentation and it was very badly done by a woman that kept saying... "there is gremlins in the sky" ? she needs psychological help in my opinion.

Disgraceful commentary from her talking to us all as if we were little primary school kids, and of course Tesco was there to sell us jobs of which are job-bridge jobs, where are the real paying jobs. I can see a lot of people complaining about that carry on from the host speaker. There must have been 100 job-seekers there, you must comply because there are gremlins in the sky, crazy.

Who is the course through - is it a fas course? is it something you organised yourself? are you on BTE Part time option?

    You should complain yourself

Yes, it is a fas course, they told me that if i do a course now and am called in by TUS to work soon after, then i will have to leave the course immediately and do the TUS work they give me as it will conflict with TUS.

They also said, if i can balance the course without it interfering with TUS work then it will be ok, but they said TUS will be the priority and will have to be done for 1 year.

I just got off the phone with fas and the social welfare as i have left a complaint with them both but they didn't seem to care at all. Typical.

I will grab a complaint form tomorrow and send it back to them. It's hard enough struggling on the dole without having to take that sort of threatening lip from that woman telling us all that the gremlins in the sky will be watching our every move if we don't fully comply and will be cut off etc...

I have been to a few different presentations over the years and never have i seen one so terribly presented.

That's disgraceful - if TUS is forcing you to leave a FAS course that is outrageous. You should gather all your facts and goto your local TDs clinic about that.

She was a disgrace! One girl got up to leave right at the end and she shouted "Where are you going?, we will be out to get you". The speaker was so condensending, as if we were all braindeads when a good few, including myself are recent graduates.

again I'd suggest lodging a complaint

Indeed. Yes i saw her give out to this girl in a threatening manner. It felt like i was in a nazi camp there for a while.

There was so many people there i'd be surprised if no-one recorded it on their smart-phone.

I just spoke to a tus manager about what you said.

If you are on a fas course you are not eligible for tus you should never have been referred to tus.

Ask the tus team leader to recheck your eligibility with his or her manager.

Tell them that you refuse to take part in tus because you are not eligible.
