Ill be taking the train from Sligo to Dublin on Monday morning.

I know there's wifi, but would it be good enough to stream Netflix so i can watch the new Breaking Bad on my iPod Touch ? It streams fine at home and we're only on 6mb/s with Vodafone

No, it isn't strong enough. I take that train twice a day and the WiFi is really really poor, hasn't really worked at all for the past two days. Even when it is working it isn't strong enough for Netflix. They blocked streaming video sites but the Netflix app doesn't appear to be blocked

I think there is something about fair usage in the T&Cs of using wifi on IR to discourage large amounts of users from simultaneously streaming or downloading. As someone said, the signal is just about strong enough mostly for browsing only so even if you wanted to breach fair usage, it probably wouldn't be possible.

Most trains wifi gave been configured do no steaming there's still a few units leftwhere streaming is possible

that's pretty bonkers if true. Enterprise networking gear shouldn't need to be configured unit by unit.

my experience of irish rail wifi (on the commuter trains) is that its a complete load of ****e. youd get better coverage with a piece of string between 2 cans. add to this the stupid login page it makes you connect to randomly every few mins and its just not fun to use.

youll have more luck with 3g on your phone.

same applies the last time i went from limerick to dublin on the train in april too.
