Famous and liked

Is there anybody from Ireland that is famous and also is liked by most people?

Bono, BOD, Robbie Keane, Ryan Tubridy, all pretty much hated for some reason or another (I think they're all great) but which famous person do you think has the biggest approval rating from the public?

I struggle to think of anyone because famous people in this country seem to get an awful lot of stick. I was going to say Dustin the Turkey but I don't think he's even popular anymore...

    Brian O'Driscoll.

Don't get why people hate Robbie Keane, the man is an Irish legend.

Colin Farrell? I've never heard anyone hate him.

Then again, the reason you hear of most Irish people being hated on is down to Irish begrudgery tbh. Irish person does well? Fúck them.

Just thinking of a few actors like Colin Meaney Liam Neeson and Brendan Gleeson. I don't usually hear people badmouthing them.

I've dealt with Brendan Gleason a couple of times in my old job and he is always an absolute gent. I'd say he'd be a bit of craic down the boozer for a few scoops.

I hear loads of people giving out about BOD and saying he's a prick...even though they've never met him. Mind you, I am from Munster. Colin Farrell comes in for a lot of stick too, especially when he started off and loads of women loved him. A lot of guys I know hated him then...I wonder why...

I don't understand why people don't like Brian O' Driscoll. He's a consummate sports professional and one of the most accomplished we've ever produced on this island.

I get the feeling there's a bit of reverse snobbery going on because he comes from an upper-middle class background.

Imelda May seems quite likeable. I don't know why anyone would dislike her. Johnny Giles would be another.

People have stupid reasons for not liking people. He's a rugby player, one of the best in the world apparently (I don't know much about rugby) so that's what he should be judged on but he's not.

got to say ther is a lot of Irish jealousy , if we dislike BOD , Robbie Keane and Bono - to me they make me proud to be Irish and something to aspire to , with all they have achieved as individuals and for ther country

I guess, just sick of seeing them every time I go to the cinema, especially the one where he's in a restaurant and the two worst actresses in Ireland are talking about their broadband, they make the cast of Fair City look like Laurence Olivier.

    Padraig Harrington

Or maybe I'm confusing liked for inoffensive?

I think the problem with being famous in Ireland is that there is always someone who has a mate who met them once and "they were a complete bollocks". Well, everyone has off days now and then and how many times have you been a total a-hole to someone when your not having a good day.
