    Hi Guys,

I'm planning to fly over to the UK to buy a car from a dealer tomorrow.

They've just recently got it in and say they are still waiting for the log book to be sent to them.

They say I can buy it and they will send it on to me a few days later.

Just wanted to check if this sounds ok.

When I bought my previous car from the UK they sent me this in the post as I did not collect it in person.

But just wanted to be sure it would be ok for coming back over on the ferry etc?

Any advice would be much appreciated!

    I would say NO.

Maybe a main dealer, but definitely not a small indy.

    Do Not Do It!!
There have been so many threads on this site regarding the heartache of people who have bought cars with no log book only to end up with trouble on their hands, and thats in Ireland, nevermind buying abroad.
If you are interested in buying (or selling) a car at the very least the log book must be present to enable the checking of chassis numbers etc.
It is also needed to correctly complete change of owner details and I would insist on taking a photocopy or photographing the book so you have something to show authorities in the mean time.
If they do not have the book it is never worth the risk, plenty of good straight cars for sale with correct paperwork out there.
    Walk Away.

I can't think why a UK dealer would take in a car without receiving the V5C at the same time - they don't send it off to DVLA to have it re reg'd but simply clip off a tiny section "sale to motor trade". This is extremely dodgy.

    Thanks very much guys.

They say they'll have it in the next few days so I'll just hold off till then!

    Thanks again for the advice.

You will have all sorts of issues trying to VRT and register the car here without the UK registration documents. I would not take the chance of it never being sent to be honest. Either wait for the dealer to receive it or move onto another car.
