Anyone know why the 60 km speed limit has been extended so far outside of Macroom on the Killarney Road side after the road works are finished and the road is wider and in better condition than its ever been? Seems a bit ridiculous to be a 60 km when there are very bad country roads that are in very poor condtion, bends, narrow etc and the speed limit is 80 km !! :(

There are some but the road is a N road an usually has a limit of 100km/h. I presume the limit is temporary. Its been over a month since I was on it. I thought they were doing road works. There was roadworks going on when I went through one of the lanes was closed and had a men with a stop go signs. Never seen a guard on it with a gun. But when I was using it weekly it was 60 with no works normally. Quite ridiculous when its 60 yet just after it one of the biggest joke of a road, bendy narrow and no hard shoulder and the main road between Cork and Kerry is 80km/h. Along with the south ring road being 60 km/h still with the works done but cones still there Cork City and County councils really need to hurry up. Not that the poxy low limits actually stop anyone going 100km/h.

Same amount of houses that were on the road before the road works.

I travel this road a lot. Roads works are finished. White markings etc, everything complete!! Like you say when when you hit the worse part of the road with the horrific bends that go on forever the speed limit is 80 km . The road I live on is 80 km, narrow, full of pot holes and bends.

I hope its not a new limit. I wonder is there a way of checking? I've no problem with reasonable limits but this is not. It just reinforces the idea the speed limits are guides not actual limits. Do they have permanent 60km/h up or is it still temp ones. IIRC leaving Macroom last time the sign on the left read 60 km/h yet the design right of it read 100km/h. Quite ridiculous that we can be trusted not to go 80 at the twisty road after it yet they think 60km/h is appropriate for this stretch. A guard would have a sore wrist from writing tickets if he stationed on it. Just checked there and most of that road is not covered by go safe vans so you should be alright. They go up until the edge of the town. The new road is x10 better than the old

Cant understand whats going on there either, almost make you wonder if they just forgot to change the signs back.
The whole road is a joke from ballyv to well past macroom but thats another issue.

AFAIK there were issues with the standard of the materials used in the new surface by the subcontractors. Hence the lack of removal of restriction of the 60 km/h.

A few months ago the council were out taking samples from various parts of the new road for testing. It is a possibility that they will have to redo the whole stretch again.

Superb public service by Cork County Council yet again.
