Does anyone know if a parking fine received in Northern Ireland has to be paid? I live in Republic of Ireland and have D reg car.

I got a parking ticket in Belfast a few years ago and ignored it. After a couple of weeks I started getting letters to my home Dublin informing me the fine had been increased. I ignored them too. Eventually they sent a letter to say that if my car was found parked legally or illegally in the north it would be impounded. I was a bit worried at that point as I work up there a lot and often have to park in the street. Fortunately someone milled into the side of my car and wrote it off so I stopped worrying.

Thank you for this. I will pay as I go there a lot too. It isn't worth the hassle.

Why on earth would anyone think they're not liable for fines if they're parked illegally?

Just pay it already, and be more careful about parking! Save yourself the agg...
