Can new employer find out where I worked last?

I've been offered a new job (yay!) but left my most recent job off my CV because it wasn't relevant. If I don't provide my P45 to the new empoyer and instead just apply for a tax credits cert, is there any way that they could see from Revenue where I had been working directly before the new job?

    Thanks.

    No.

Revenue are well used to people not wanting employers to know about previous jobs, and will facilitate you.

You say they will facilitate you, does this imply you have to request that the new employer hasn't access to your previous employers details

You've been offered the job and in many cases it would just be a payroll operator that would be taking your p45 and they wouldnt be that interested in who the last employer was, so i wouldn't be worried. I doubt this would be brought up and if the last job not being relevant is the real reason it was left off, you could just tell them so if it was brought up. If you think they might be suspicious that you don't have a good reference from that job, simply say you can supply a reference if they want. They probably wouldn't bother with that either. I would just hand in the p45 and not worry, they're not likely to rescind the job offer just because you left an unrelated position off your cv.
