fitting a Garmin speed /cadence sensor underneath the chainstay... will it be ok?

    hi all,
i got a Garmin Edge 500 today and went to fit the cadence / speed sensor but the arm (when down) keeps catching the magnet sensor on the spoke (Ksyrium equipes). I don't think the done thing is to have the arm raised up so I put the sensor on the underneath of the chain stay.
the magnetic sensor on the spoke now doesn't touch and is within 5mm or so of the sensor. the crank sensor is also ok.

Is it ok to do it this way or should I swing the arm on the sensor upwards?
    any advice great appreciated.

Buy a new bike that fits the sensor! :)

The done thing? Is there a fashionista approach to mounting computer mounts now? I have the arm up on mine, but I don't think it makes a difference whether it's above or below the chainstay. You can also mount the magnet backwards on the wheel if that helps with your clearance issues.

I have the arm up on both of my bikes works fine no issue (I couldn't get them to fit either)

thanks all. I think it should be ok... will test it tomorrow and twist the arm up if needed.

and 07lapierre... I got a new bike as well! :D

Lots of bikes are this way, the only issue with having the arm up is you have a better chance of hitting it when taking off the wheel...

Same wheels, and have had the arm up since I got it with no problems. Never had any issue with catching it while taking off the wheel either

Arm up on mine, since the other day when I finally got around to putting it on. It's been sitting gathering dust for a year.

Mustn't have been on very tight because it shifted and was pinging off the magnet last night. Might just take it off. More numbers to tell me how crap I am.

Sensor on top, arm down, works fine for me. It depends on the distance between the stay and the wheel.
