Mixing brads for cross fire

    I have an ati R5850 HD 1GB (XFX)currently.
Since I'm not upgrading for a while I was thinking of getting another and trying out crossfire for the laugh.

    My question is,
Do I need to get another XFI ?
And a quick one on power.
    My PSU is 800watts
It has I think 2 6 pin connectors.
Are the molex to 6 pins ok to use ?
I was thinking one 6pin per card and a converted molex each.

    Cheers!

    Mixing brands is fine.

Using adaptors on molex is fine too as long as the psu is up to it.

    What brand/model is it?

looks like Ive only a 600watt PSU

    ultra_xfinity_2g_2_lable.jpg

    This is from ati
    - 500 Watt or greater power supply with two 75W 6-pin PCI Express® power connectors recommended (600 Watt and four 6-pin connectors for ATI CrossFireX™ technology in dual mode).

    So what do you reckon?
Boarder line or not at all?

I dont have a second card yet anyway

    Cheers

Your going to need four PCI-E connecters(converted Molex or not) , two for each card... if you have them you may get away with it, More So with the 600Watt

Recently had to upgrade as my PSU was a wimby 405 and on an other mothrboard

Will leave it to Bloodbath to give you the best advise

The main thing is that there is only 444w max available of that on the 12v rail. The graphics cards and processor use the 12v rail so most of the system power goes there.

You're going to have to replace that power supply for sure.

-edit- Well maybe not. What is the power consumption on the card? Is it overclocked? What cpu are you using and is it overclocked?
