Questions about Couchsurfing in Ireland

So, I posted earlier on the best places to go in Dublin and where to go for Halloween. My friend and I will be in Ireland for about 5 days tops Oct 26 - Nov 1.
My question is, does anyone here offer couchsurfing or know of anyone that does it.
I am not opposed to meeting people from the internet,(I enjoy it) I have done it a lot of times through out America, since I have a lived in major cites (like LA and Philly etc). One of the main things my friend and I want to make sure of is that we meet new people and make friends that we can always keep in contact with around the world who have the same interest in doing so. It is always awesome to have a friend in another country, you have someone to see and someone to stay with if they decide to visit.

SO YEAH! Money saving is another reason why of course! ;)

After a few peoples suggestions on here, we decided to go to Derry for Halloween.

Another thing is...how do we get to Derry? The question doesn't look as stupid as it sounds, lol. What I mean is, is there a cheap alternative to get there...or should we just try and meet peeps and hitch a ride, haha!

We are just trying to go with the flow of things and we are not very stringent on a schedule.

    Thanks!

...how do we get to Derry?

Irish people have been pondering this question for thousands of years.

No. We're a bunch of sarcastic c**ts instead.

I think I heard something about that...that's okay, because so am I. I am probably worst. At least it will be warmly accepted over there. Most people in a America (where I am from) are too stupid to catch on and get offended easily. So Ireland will be a breathe of fresh air. :)

    P.S. I wouldn't say I am a c**t... but I am female... :P

    Would the couch not sink?

    We use surfboards :pac:

Have you tried the couchsurfing website?

There is a bus to Derry, it takes about 3 hours from Dublin.
The trains will be more expensive.

Since a string of murders on young women a few years ago in Ireland, hitching is not as popular as it once was, that and we all had a car each during the celtic tiger :)

Two cars. and a horse. The second car was for the horse but since horse cant legally own property it technically belonged to the owner of the horse.

What on Earth is a SoCal?

Its like SoCoDub but with less pronounced American accents!

What on Earth is a SoCal?

Really now? I know of general locations and slang in Ireland and I am not even from there! So you say you you don't know what SoCal is or ever even heard the term? Well the So means Southern and the Cal means California. :P

So I live in Southern Cali. I'm a Cali girl. I live 20 mins (mins means minutes by the way) south of LA. :)

Why are you going to Derry? Go to Galway or Dublin op. There's nothing in Derry whatsoever except misery.

Derry is great craic, especially during Halloween. You'll have a great time here OP.

I was told that Derry has a festival like thing for Halloween... a few people suggested it!

I'm, like, liking these crazy American ways.

Suggestions for renaming some counties on our recession hit rock.

No=North, So = South for those of you who can't keep up with the class.

    NoCar (Carlow)

    NoWater (Waterford)

but I think SoSli is also up for consideration for Shligo.

Just letting you know that the reason you're getting these comments is because your thread is in AH. More banter round these parts than info :)

From experience Galway and Dublin would probably have the most stuff to do around halloween. Also i'd imagine it would be easier to find places to couch surf in the cities.

Thanks! The bantering is fine. I don't mind it at all. I just know not all of them were clueless as to what LA was...lol

You've probably been asked this alread but if you do indeed, as your name suggests, eat glitter, you must shit disco balls. Oblong, stinking disco balls. That's pretty cool.

Have you priced how much it will cost to transport a big drum from America?

There are people will probably pay you a lot of money to do just that. Could finance your trip here. Invest €3 in a box of Bran Flakes and youre golden...(shower)

A drum full of petrol yes? For the bonfires I assume...

I don't think I would even go that low...
    What do you think I am...Asian?! :P

Yes, then I plan to do flips and cartwheels over the fires...

Im pretty sure they dont have a bonfire at it. Bonfires in Ireland are largely the preserve of baying, guldering morons these days.

What's the difference. Instead of depositing it in a porcelain bowl you drop it on a porcelain plate and then slide it across to your scat hungry admirer.
I'm about to head to for lunch so I'm gonna draw a close to this particular conversation so as not to ruin my chocolate eclair, but if you get stuck it could come in handy.
    Enjoy your trip.
Dont go to Galway. It's shit.

If you've got 4/5 days to play with OP it might be an idea to not spend it all in one city/town. Maybe a couple of days in Dublin, a day or two in Derry and maybe a day in some other city (Galway, Belfast, Cork or Limerick). I include Galway because, even though I've been there only twice, it's not that bad (granted one of those visits I remember very little about, so it must've been good!).

OP. I would love to help out but the thing is my brother who lives in the basement doesn't like strangers. Perhaps if you posted some pics of you and your socal friend I could show him them when it's feeding time.

He loves swimwear btw so if you could that would be great.
