Protective Gear

    Hey,

So last year I had to cancel my snowboard holiday due to a minor car crash (not my fault!!) so eager to get ready this year.

Basically, I have a spine injury and need to protect it big time!! I have some protective gear from 2 years ago but its not great. My primary concern is the spine protector.

I have this: http://www.boardology.co.uk/Snow/Snowboarding-Protection/DEMON-Flex-Force-Pro-Spine-Guard.ice but didn't find it great tbh. It kept shifting up my back which was annoying. There are other protective spine guards in the link but no reviews, and looking for something that anyone has used and could recommend!

Also, need to upgrade my padded shorts.

Any advice would be much appreciated :)

I use this (Declared interest I work for Salomon), probably one of the better ones on the market, sits well and you can remove the spine protector and wash the casing. Its light as a feather and moulds to your back.

As for ass shorts, the Danise ones are the best ones I have ever seen.

    Hi Fattes,

Thanks for that. They are sold out on the website. Went in to Snow and Rock here in London and won't have any gear until late October but will be getting stuff in.

Do you wear the protector under or over your thermals?

Try http://www.snowtraxstore.co.uk/ski for the gear you are looking for really good bunch of guys who know their stuff, Skibartlett are pretty good to in the London area, but if you are in no rush.

I wear Skins thermals so Over away from the skin, handy if you want to take it off hiking in the back country etc. Most of the stores are getting their orders from the ski companies this week, I was over ski testing and training some of the S&R staff this week on their new season stock.

Thanks Fattes. I live in SE London so will be difficult to get to their store but the online site looks good.

One more question and wondering if you could help.

I have a duck stance on the board but find after 30mins that I lose the feeling in my lower legs/shins etc. Always have to stop and rest for a while to get the blood moving again.

It can get quite painful and my calves go rock hard aswell. Would you think this is more to do with boots or bindings? I do have shin splints if that aswell so no hiking :(!!

ulinbac; Not a snowboard expert by any stretch of the imagination. I would start with the boots though, to many Duck stance borders out there for that to be the core issue. But that is a very uneducated guess.
