So the trial of Michael Le Vell (Kevin Webster Corrie) began yesterday. He is up for 12 charges including rape of a 6 year old. The accuser is now 17. He is strenuously denying these allegations. Coronation street have agreed to give him a €250,000 contract back on the show if he proves himself innocent. I don't know what to believe anymore.

There are so many cases coming to light now it's hard to get your head around it.

Unfortunately, if any of the allegations are proven to be false, it will be devastating for the real victims.

I can't get over Rolf Harris, I really liked him.

I used to work in Manchester. Where the office was there was a high street with a few pups. Used to always see him there at lunch/after work locked. I've seen it reported that he is an alco. Doesn't surprise me

Well a case like this is ferociously difficult to prove without physical evidence. And horrible if he gets off and is guilty and equally horrible if he's found guilty and is innocent.

Unfortunately when it comes to jury's they can believe what they want and not necessarily the facts.

I don't think there is any actual evidence judging from what I've read.

Innocent till proven guilty - but if guilty , hope they all get some un wanted attention from sexual predators while inside.

Saville , DLT , the guy from its a knock out , michael le vell , garry glitter , rolf harris , ect ect ect

it's will be more shocking to find out a 70's tv star was not fiddling with kids,

Yeah cos problem drinker = paedo. Going on the evidence so far, it sounds like she's making it up-especially considering her hymen is intact. Have any other victims come forward? Is it normal for a middle-aged man to morph into a paedophile overnight?

A paedophile wouldn't be attracted to a 16 year old.

Edit: She was 6 not 16.

She is 17 now and if she is found to be lying she should have her name and face plastered all over the paper and see how she likes it.

There's also some inconsistencies in her evidence. Earlier she gave a statement saying that she had told 'loads of her friends' and then later she claims she didn't tell anyone because she was too ashamed.

The thing is, with all these allegations surfacing, it's quite possible that someone could make up allegations against a big (& wealthy) TV personality in order to get a nice compensation payout.

And in cases like this, it really is just one persons word against another. So he could be guilty as hell, but he could also be the real victim in this. Without physical evidence, it's impossible to know the truth with 100% certainty.

In a case like this it comes down to whether the Jury believe the Girls tears or Michael's head shaking.

The Jury system is IMO a farce because you have ordinary people trying to decide difficult cases and it's hard not to become emotional in difficult cases.

The Scottish verdict option of "not proven" is very sensible.

Trying to prove these things years after the fact makes it extremely difficult to determine what the truth is. More reason to try to get kids to come forward as soon as possible.

As it is the allegations have to be proven beyond doubt and already doubt is showing up in the girls testimony.

Im not sure if thats been revealed.

He is being prosecuted for 12 charges: five counts of rape, three of indecent assault, two counts of sexual activity with a child and two of causing a child to engage in sexual activity. Whats the difference between sexual assault and sexual activity with a child? No idea.

Do we know yet how he knows the girl?

Edit2: There is an allegation of oral rape, but Im not sure about the rest.

In fairness to godtabh, I read their post as saying they're not surprised he's being reported as an alco, not a paedo.

At the risk of sounding obsessed, I can't see how a sexually immature 6 year old could be vaginally raped and still have an intact hymen.

Vaginal rape hasn't been confirmed, but one article I just googled mentioned her seeing a doctor with pain in the genital region, and the doctor putting it down to drinking too much orange juice. Perhaps that suggest anal rape?

It's an awful case whether it's true or not, but very difficult to prove.

I wonder if its just some money grabber. Such a hard thing to prove though. Grew up watching him on the tv along with Rolf Harris and Jimmy Saville. Slowly losing faith in humanity here. I hope he is proven innocent but even if he is, a lot of the damage has been done. Marriage break up and his name tarnished. IF he is telling the truth and that's a big if. But I do believe in innocent until proven guilty.

He can't be "proven innocent". What happens is that he can be found "not guilty". They are not exactly 100% the same thing.

By the way, why do you hope that he is "proven innocent"? I'm not saying he did it, but what if he did?

I phrased it wrong sorry. I mean if he is definitely innocent, I hope people are left in no doubt and she admits to lying.

Of course if he is in fact guilty of these horrific charges then he should be punished accordingly.
