RPT Interview - Late in the Day

I have an interview with a VEC this week for Fixed Term hours in a school. I rang HR and they said the hours would be all my own and that the position would begin immediately.

Would I be correct in assuming there must already be someone in the job provisionally? And that the favour of the interview board is likely to fall with them?

That's a possibility alright but there is still a chance it's a genuine vacancy. A teacher is leaving my school next week as she has got a job closer to home and so there will be a RPT vacancy advertised to replace her.

Thanks for the reply. I was thinking that was the case. I'll give it my best shot anyway.

There could be someone in it provisionally but it could also be that the school has been unable to fill the position or someone who had taken the job has upped and left at the last minute.

I think I applied for the job in July - it was definitely ages ago. I heard nothing until last week when someone from HR rang about the interview. It's definitely not a subject where teachers would be scarce. What do you make of that?

Either the vec is incredibly disorganised and only got around to interviewing now or they already held interviews and gave the job to someone else who has now backed out.

The vec may have also advertised on spec too without knowing if the allocation for the job would be available.

Nothing to lose by attending anyway.
