Road markings in private estates

I live in an estate which was built around 15 years ago in County Cork.
The attached pic shows an entrance to the estate which has no road markings to indicate right of way etc.

Does anyone have any experience in getting the council to line the road?
There have been a few close calls here recently and I'm just wondering if road markings might help.

The green arrow (dire driving IMO) indicates how some people exit, blind, and nearly hit cars entering via the yellow line I've drawn.

Anyone have any experience of this?
Should I be contacting the roads department or someone in the council or have I basically just become my old man?

I think the answer is in the title of your post?

If the estate is definitely private then would it not be up to the management company?

Local Authorities would only place road markings on roads in charge

Check that your estate is not in charge first, if it is in charge then first port of call would be the Local Roads Area Engineer. If its not in charge then I'm afraid that it would be a management company or local residents committee etc.

    Good luck

    Thanks for the reply.
There's not a management company in the estate, however there is a resident's committee (or at least there used to be).

How would I check if the council is in charge of the estate? Any idea?

My reference to private above meant that it's not a council owned estate.

A quick call to your local authority should be able to establish if its being taken in charge. In Wexford Estates in charge are dealt with by the Roads Department but this could differ across the country. If it is in charge then I would be talking to your local roads area engineer and emphasising the dangers to road users etc and requesting that road markings and any appropriate signage be supplied as a matter of urgency

    Good luck

Hey OP, did you ever have any luck in getting these markings completed? I'm looking for something similar for my estate....similar issues.

I did. Made a call to Cork County Council. Area engineer came out and reviewed it. He gave me a call to advise what he is recommending. The job was added to a list and was completed around 6 weeks later.

Cheers! Good to know it didn't take years to get completed!
