NPWS Grey Partridge Project in Co. Offaly: History, Conservation and Future Prospects.

Talk by NPWS Conservation Ranger Kieran Buckley at the Clara Bog Visitor Centre. NPWS lands in Boora have become the last place of refuge for a bird that was noted to have an extensive range in Ireland just over 100 years ago when traditional farming methods prevailed. In 2001 a mere 21 grey partridges were recorded in Boora. They were facing extinction in Ireland. In 2010, 908 birds were recorded. This was due to the hard work and dedication of a joint effort between NPWS and The Irish Grey Partridge Conservation Trust. It will be interesting to find out how this was achieved and what the future plans are for the grey partridge in Ireland. Admission is free.
Date: Thursday 5th of September 2013 Time: 8:00pm Place: Clara Bog Visitor Centre, Ballycumber Road, Clara Co. Offaly. Phone: 057 9368878

Might be of interest to some of you. If I'm around I might head up myself.

Well worth going. They are doing a great job out there.Kieran Buckley and Paddy Kelly have done great work to bring them back from the brink of extinction. I've known Paddy for years and if he's there, there'll be some stories told lol.

    +1

Gone to a couple of their talks over the years and you'll not meet a sounder bunch of lads. They struck me as having a great understanding and appreciation for all the species that are thriving at Boora thanx to their great work.

This is something i am very interested in as i am hoping to setup a Grey Partridge re-introduction project next year in my townsland. I have read a lot about the two lads and they are highly though off. I was to attend a Birdwatch Ireland talk this Thurs in Naas but i will now definately go to this talk instead. Thanks for the information on the talk.:)

This talk was held last Thursday the 5th. Don't think there is a talk this Thursday.
