    Hi

I hope this is the right forum I'm just looking for some views/perspective on something that happened.

I was out driving on a country road when I got behind a big forage harvester and trailer. After a bit he stopped to let tractor get past him as they met on the road, I was behind and so stopped too. Suddenly the guy in front of me starts to reverse, I reverse a bit too but there is another car behind me so I can't reverse very quickly. He keeps on coming and I stArt beeping. The back of his trailer hits the front of my car. He's stopped now and I get out to look for damage and have a word. As soon as I look he starts to drive off. I run up the road waving at him but he is gone.

I jump in my car and follow him to a farm and say hey do you not know you hit me. He is totally unapologetic and says he wouldn't even feel it driving his thing. Then he says I should have reversed faster to get out of his way! He asks is there any damage done, I say I don't think so and his response is "aren't you lucky then". He claims he could see me his mirrors reversing but I don't think he could, he then must have chosen not to see me waving and running after him.

People make mistakes and I wouldn't mind if he'd just said sorry, didn't see you. No harm done but he made it out to be my fault. Was I in any fault here?

    Thanks!

Of course not!! HE reversed into YOU who was STATIONARY! The other guy's a tool.

I wouldn't be so quick to disclaim damage either. There might be hidden damage for all you know. Report the accident to your insurance, just in case, and get the car checked out.

Id like to report him to the guards!

Sounds like he was at fault for reversing into you without due care and attention. Proving it though may have been difficult and without witnesses it could have been your word against his. Luckily you have no damage so you don't have that problem. He does sound like a right charming person not manning up to his wrong but unfortunately that is the world we live in.

I doubt they would be interested. Very minor and he would likely just say he didn't feel the contact. plus there is no damage to suggest impact was heavy enough that he should have.

I handled it badly. There was a witness but as i had to pursue him I had no time to get her details. No plate on his trailer either.

It was an accident. No injuries and no criminal damage. Nothing to do with the Gardai

OP - unless you are 100% certain that there is no damage to your car (or to you), report the incident to your insurance company. Give them all the details you have. Time, place, address of the farmer, the reg of the harvester...

Leaving the scene? Damage, injuries are a separate thing altogether.

Wondering was reversing into someone and driving off not dangerous driving somehow.

Aye, but they met up later and talked. Farmer seem ignorant about having crashed into OP. Could very well be genuine :D

I think the farmer is plain ignorant. Period.

In hindsight I should just have reported it and not followed him down an isolated lane for a chat. You never know how a road rage incident could develope.

He does sound a bit rude but I doubt he would have heard or felt any impact driving a tractor with a trailer and no apparent damage to your car. Doesn't excuse his driving or subsequent actions though

What if he reversed over a child. Take a pic with phone of his insurance disk and ring your company

Having driven them I can say he may not but he doesn't have any excuses

Just out of interest, what would happen if the OP persued this further and the farmer turned around and said that the OP actually drove into him, not the other way around? How would it play out then?
