I am looking to get some custom jewellery made for a 40th birthday present for my wife.

I also assume I would have to get these done in gold, since given the cost of the work silver would be a bit of a waste. Can anyone advise on that ?

I am wondering if anyone could recommend a goldsmith to work with and if they have anything similar done in the past

Hi,

I'm a goldsmith and you can PM me here if you want to discuss this. If I'm not in your area I'm sure to know someone that can do this for you. You are right about the gold - most people will not work in silver to commission.
