yet another car tax question

I know the new rules have been done over and over but I just need to check that my understanding is correct. My car has been off the road for the last 3 months (hasn't been moved from my driveway) due to mechanical problems. It was taxed up until the end of july and because I wasn't using or thinking about it, it didn't occur to me to tax it or declare it off the road. I'm hoping to finally have it back up and running by next week. Am I right in thinking that I can go today (ie before the end of august) and declare it off the road for 3 months from august, then next week when it's back on the road, I can declare it back on and tax it from september?

you just need to tax it in the old way using a RF100a with the gards stamping the declaration that it was off the road for August. Pay the tax from sept.

I Went in to the tax office just now to enquire about continuing not taxing my car from sept onwards

the standard form stamped by the guards and a new form as well to hand in anytime during the month of sept. Both forms need to be handed in at the same time.

Cant be done any earlier than the month it will incurred for

Completely wrong, 30 years for the lower vintage rate of €56.
