Does anyone know what the Comedy soc is like, really interested in it but cant find much information on it

I went to a few Comedy Soc events last year. They weren't very frequent, but I enjoyed the ones I did attend, which included a lecture-hall gig with a lineup of 4 moderately good comedians, and another one where Tommy Tiernan made an appearance for 50 minutes....on a projector :(

It's not the most sociable of societies. You don't sit around discussing your favourite comedy acts while sipping brie and eating red wine - it's more of an "event" society. Events are organised; you attend; then you leave. Maybe that depends on what you make of it, however, and I'm an anti-social buffoon.

All that said, maybe my recollection is fuzzy/skewed, or the society's style has changed since last year. It's worth going along to a meeting or two and seeing what you think of it. Costs nothing but time.

Anyone have any experience with the St V de P society that they'd like to share? I'm thinking of joining it this year.

There was one, but it kinda fell apart. Someone I knew was on the committee.
I was a First year rep two years ago... it fell apart in first semester..

I signed up for that last year and never ended up going but i know 2 people who are big members in it. Dosent matter if your 6ft 4 built like house or 5ft 3 and skinny like a cheese string. Male or Female of all sizes all are welcome to it and can be very fulfillung. No ones gonna throw ye in the deep end. Im planning on starting it aswell this year :)

I'm part of the Self Defence Club. Was president for a few years while in college, and now an alumni member, and black belt.

It's good fun, and you don't have to be fit, or strong, or anything else to join - just willing to give it a go. There are all different levels, and all different shapes and sizes that train (for instance, I'm a 5' 3", small-ish girl).

Like any sort of new sport, it'll maybe be a little tough at first, especially if you're not used to exercise, but don't let that put you off. It'll get easier as your fitness increases and hopefully that'll make you feel great too!

We seem to be having a few problems with our website at the moment, and it's due an update, but it is here: http://www.nuimselfdefence.com

We also have a Facebook page, so please join and ask any questions you may have, or keep up with what's happening: https://www.facebook.com/groups/nuimselfdefence/

We've got a youtube channel which we upload class videos to, so that people can review techniques: http://www.youtube.com/nuimselfdefence We also upload videos of seminars that our instructors have taught at. Don't be put off if the videos seem advanced - we definitely start at beginner level, and don't expect people to be throwing and flying around the place right at the start!

Feel free to PM me here, and I'll do my best to answer questions. Hope that helps!
