    Hi all,

    Perhaps this is not possible.
But I am trying to organise a trip for me and my boyfriend for st Patrick's weekend. So arriving Saturday 15th leaving 17th march.
I have a budget of about 40 or 50 euro per night. Does anyone recommend any hotels in this price range in as good a location as possible. Location is everything to us and quality of hotel not so much.
I have looked at the travellodge option. There seems to be a lot of them in Edinburgh, does anyone have any experience with them?
    Thanks.

You'll find it hard to get a hotel around that rate, if you can stretch to it, the Tune Hotel opposite Haymarket Station has a double room (windowless ie in the basement) for £90 altogether for the two nights. Amazing location and decent hotel for the price

I've stayed in a windowless room in Tune in Edinburgh - not in the basement!! The way the rooms are organised in the building, there are rooms in the middle of the building with 4 walls, no windows and then others that are along the outside walls with windows if that makes sense. They are small but well organised with everything you could need, including an en suite toilet and shower.

About a 10-15 minute walk to Prince's Street, location was fine. It's directly on the airport bus route and if you don't feel like walking, £1.50 will get you into the city centre on any bus.

My parents went to Edinburgh recently too for the British Open. Because of this, hotel rooms were very hard to come by so we booked them a self catering apartment in the Blue Rainbow Apartments on Queen Street, a much better location than Tune. Can't remember the exact price but we booked it via ebookers.

Have a look on TripAdvisor, I generally find good advice there. Put a query up on the Edinburgh Forum, definitely worth a try, IME.

There's a German chain that have opened a couple of hotels in Edinburgh, their rates seem decent enough, though a bit more than your budget, and the reviews okayish.

For location the Travel Lodge Waterloo Place would be ideal. We stayed at the Apex Waterloo which is next door and the location was perfect. Just across the road from the main bus and train station and a two minute walk to the shops and restaurants. A quick search is bringing up £65 for the Sat night but only £35 for the Sunday night so average £50 per night.

I'm a bit confused as to why you would want to book a room now for March of next year? There are unlikely to be any deals or promotions this way far in advance. I would wait until late this year and see what kinds of deals are promoted. Is St. Patrick's Day weekend such a huge booked up event in Edinburgh?

Also remember that room rates vary based on the exchange rate from Euro to Pound which can make at least a bit of a difference either way. Not to mention any currency conversion fees that you are charged by the bank.

Another option is to try Airbnb.com and see if you can rent a room in a private house for that low a price.

I stayed at the Travellodge Shandwick Place (excuse the spelling) for St Patricks weekend this year. The hotel is basis but surprisingly clean and comfortable.

Got a double room for €50 a night on Alpharooms which is mad cheap considering Edinburgh is a busy destination for The festivities. The room even came with a breakfast box each morning. Location is good also as its close to the royal mile and only few pound in a taxi to the Grassmarket.

There could be a rugby international on that weekend. If so you won't get any special offers.

    Thanks for all the replies.

Scott the reason I want to book so early is because it is for a present and like to be able to say I've booked flights and accommodation but maybe you are right and I should wait a few months before booking to try and get a deal!

The numerous travel lodges are definitely working out the cheapest and the Waterloo place one seems to be in a good location so might go with that.

    Thanks again everyone.

Just checked and Scotland play away to Wales that weekend so that shouldn't cause an issue.
