A friend has a Focus with a 1.6 Peugeot engine with engine management light on and computer says pariticle filter blocked. I hear it is a very expensive item to replace anyone with any other ideas how to overcome this problem.

    Thanks Stan

Get it removed and deleted from the car's ECU. Plenty of companies offer this service. Do they use the car for a lot of short trips?

About 25 miles each way to work. Anyone in the north west doing that service?

    Try 3k revs for 20- 30 mins.

The heat can clear them. Can have gone to far though

A quick google produced a few results of this crowd:

    No nothing about them though.

That should be plenty to keep the DPF clear provided it's done at a reasonable speed. Have there been any other warning lights or messages about low fluid or emission system?

The regeneration process needs to be carried out with diagnostic equipment only.

The fuel mixture is changed during the process to produce high exhaust gas temperatures.

What mileage is on the car? The process can be harsh on an engine.

    What county are you in?

Also note that this engine needs an additive called Eloy topped up every so often, this additive is used as part of the DPF system. Some mechanics may not be familiar with this.

It is possible that the DPF has reached the end of it's useful life. It is possible to have it removed and cleaned but if it were me I'd ditch it once it is removed.

you need a proper diagnostic scan done on the ecu.

It will show what level is in that additive fluid.

It'll tell if DPF can be regenerated.

It will tell what mileage is left in it.

As well as the proper regeneration process, proper diagnostic equipment will be able to run an emergency regeneration process to get the car driving again.

for carrying out either operation, it would be no harm if engine had a recent service and that its not due a timing belt.

Whatever diagnostics man calls, he would be requiring you to sign a disclaimer re engine damage as the engine will be running at 4000rpm for 3 full minutes

We have the same engine in a 307 and it has done 155,000 miles and there's plenty left in it. I asked about other warning lights in my first post (No6) because this engine needs an additive that's contained in a separate tank under the car. The tank-full generally lasts about 70,000 miles but it varies widely. If you have not got sufficient additive you are wasting your time trying to regenerate.

No other warning lights as far as I am aware

Is the car in limp mode..? (drives fine but no power/turbo)

Who said it needed a new dpf....?
Like the lads said above was the additive level checked..?

Tbh the focus 1.6 tdci's can go into limp mode with just one glow plug blown so get someone to plugin and see what fault codes are present..?
Also get them to check the differential pressure across the dpf @idle..@1500rpms..@2000rpms..@..3000rpms...?

I'm based in Galway but If need be i know an independent garage with dealer level diagnostics in south Leitrim (if your near there) who can read fault codes/differential pressure etc...:)
