My understanding of the law is that it's illegal to shoot a crow, unless it can be shown that the crow is causing damage to crops etc.

The lads in the hunting forum would solve this for ya fairly quick!

Damage to crops, livestock or human health (wrong phrase) I think. Last time I looked there were rolling three month derogations allowing certain species to be trapped or shot. As a rule, all wild birds are protected including crows. The derogation allows them to be controlled, if causing damage.

What's black and dangerous and lives in a tree?

A crow with a machine gun!

Just thought I would share that nugget of wisdom with you all!

the boys in the shooting section will defo have the correct answer for you down to the very last letter of the law, but my understanding that all birds in ireland are protected but you can shoot birds classed as vermin year round such as crows "esp ones with machine guns" pigeons, magpies ect ect. but others like ducks, pheasants have a limited season

As the lads said you can shoot and trap certain crow and pigeon species under derogation if they are causing damage. Below is a link to the latest derogations

Just finished watching the last series of Game of Thrones, the title of the thread reminded me of it.
