    Hi Folks,

I'm looking for a club spin in the evenings from Phoenix Park/ City Centre before the light dies and maybe Saturday mornings over winter. (Sunday papers, coffee and toddlers too much of a draw on a Sunday). Intermediate level. Emphasis on fun. I know Cycling Ireland have a list- but it's poor- out of date, a lot of clubs listed don't exist anymore and I can't find what I'm looking for.

    Thanks in advance.

    Hi Cyclic

I think there was a group that used to use the park to meet up last year but i dont know if there still about. i use the park quite abit for evening spins and for accessing meath countryside. was toying with the idea of joining a club this year or about forming a club in or around the city centre, if anyone was interested let me know? thinking of a name like DUBH LINN CC..? any takers?

i might be into this. was thinking of the blanch dudes, but since im right beside the pheno, this would be ideal. i only really know my commute routes out to maynooth, so new pastures would be fun

    Hi
Maybe its something we should look into, have been tempted to start a city centre club using phoenix Pk as a hub for the last year, all we need is some interested members? would be interested in meeting people for a spin in the park some evening to discuss this? Any Takers?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21,741 ✭✭✭✭Squidgy Black

I'd be interested depending on the average speed. I think the park's a good idea for a hub, that way you'll be able to get people in from Blanch/Castleknock etc, then town, Phibsboro/Cabra and even further north.

    Hi
was thinking the same name but unfort theres a phoenix cc up in belfast already, so was toying with DUBH LINN CC ( means The black pool for non gaelic speakers) would love to start a city centre racing/sportive mtb club as most clubs are on the outskirts of the city. used to be a member of edenderry tullamore athlone clubs in the past so have some experience around forming clubs. If anyone was interested please let me know??

    Hi Rob
Totally agree..might not rob their name but like their jersey... in the interest of cross border co-operation best not pi$$ off our neighbours up north.

    Hi Stetyrrell

I too live in city centre, maybe we should try and arrange a meet up in Phoenix park over Boards.ie some evening soon for interested members and see what happens ? as for the average speed, i usually go as fast as the slowest person on a spin,20-30kph, no one gets left behind!

Could be a bit messy in case they were mistaken for the other.

What about Deerfield CC after the Deerfield residence in the park, and of course the fact that there's load of deers in the fields? :pac:

I'm not free Wednesday afternoons, but don't let me hold yous back :p

Best thing to do is draw up the proposed route on mapmyride.com so people can have an idea of distance and elevation etc.

I'd be interested too. Based in Stoneybatter. Unfit and more interested in enjoying the cycle than setting records, but if that's alright with yous...!

    Hi Guys

What sort of average speed is expected? I would love to join, but I barely can keep 28km/h for more than 60 km.

yes this is a go for me. i commute to maynooth a few times a week and average b/w 25 and 30 depending on how motivated i am that day.
will be good to work on group rides which is probably a weak point.

wednesday will prob work, but im going to venice next day, so ill have to call it nearer the time

    Hi Folks,

looks like we would have people interested in a phoenix Pk spin group, not sure if we will accept southsiders ( zyzz) hahaha, only kidding, the more the merrier. im hoping to head out next weds eve from the papal cross at 6.30, will post up a mapmyride ( dead flat 60k route to begin with ) by the weekend.
What other times and days would suit people??? unavailable tues eve but open to other days?

I live nearby and would be interested also. Free most weekdays and the odd weekend

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21,741 ✭✭✭✭Squidgy Black

Won't really know when I'm free until the timetable for this semester is posted tomorrow, but I have to say it's great to have spins that aren't on Sunday mornings, I work Sundays and when I'm not in I'm playing GAA matches so I never get to join any clubs.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,547 ✭✭✭funkyjebus

Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday all works for me, but I'd have a preference for Wednesdays.

We will probably only get a few more mid week spins in before it gets dark anyway so perhaps play it by ear for now to see which days works best for numbers on a given week.

For weekend spins, Sunday is my preference.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 290 ✭✭Tomred13

    Hi Folks

completely agree that we probably only have a few more evening spins left this year, but we could organise both a saturday and sunday spin from the park during the winter months, so people dont miss out. id be on to organise a spin on one of the days.

To get the ball rolling im heading out next weds eve ( 4th sept) from papal cross at 6.00pm for a dead flat 60k loop around dunboyne if anyones interested, im off to electric picnic so wont be near the interweb to check the thread til monday.

    Hi,

I'm over in Ashtown. I go out most weekends for about 60-70km at 25-26 kmh. Weekends probably suit me better than midweek, but might drop over next Wednesday for a spin. I'm a bit of a newbie, having just got my first road by last November on the Bike 2 Work scheme. Since then, at least I managed to use it! Have done 1,600km since then including two 100km sportives so far.

Re: a name - seeing as Phoenix CC is gone what about Firebirds cc? Great jersey design options!

If not that, then Fionn Uisce CC??

BTW, Tomred13, the link to MMR doesn't seem to work for me.

Member of Blanch Wheelies (Blanchardstown Cycling Club) Here,

We are always looking for new members, currently the club has circa 35 members with a good mix of leisure/racers/tri...

The official club spins are Sundays from the Strawhall pub but lots of Wednesday evening spins during summer and lads informally meet up and go out in smaller groups who are of similar level.

No one gets left behind and lots of good banter..

I hereby suggest the meeting point be known as the Paypal cross!

*inside joke, for those not on the jersey thread.

Kilmainham based, looking for a club too, this sounds perfect.

Relative newbie trying to push out the distances, up to 60-70K at the minute, should be able to just about hang on at 25kph

Do shift patterns in work so no particular day suits will get out when I can.

    Cheers
